You never should feel pain with any PE technique.
Try using a baby-powder, you can pull with the same force but less tight grip. You could also have some micro-cuts/irritation, and the powder will aid disinfecting the area.
The Continental, I suggest: if it’s working stay with that. You’ll have time to experiment variations.
To Norwegian and Dar Blight: yes, if you don’t retract the skin you’ll likely have a growth of it. But is extra-skin worse than pain? I’d say not, but the choice is yours.
