Slightly OT - Insomnia if I Don't Cum Before Bed

Heya all,

I’m a newbie or I’d post this in the Sexual Health forum, so I hope nobody minds I’m putting it here, but.. Lately I’ve been trying to experience a wet dream since I never did in my youth (well, I’m only 26 now, but my teenage years I should say). I very rarely have erotic dreams in fact even though I dream pretty often. (BTW, and this is NOT Spam, there’s a supplement out there called Brilliant Dreams that really does help me remember my dreams much better, though sadly I still haven’t gotten to experience erotic dreams like I had hoped for.but just dreaming more often and remembering it is very cool).

Anyways, I think the main culprit so to speak is that I masturbate prettymuch every day, sometimes more than once. I have since I was a teenager and have a very high sex drive. What I’d *like* to do is to be able to hold off for more than a day or two and see what happens if I hold off for, ideally, weeks.to see if I can get into wet dream territory. And also, it’s nice to hold off like this and then have a sexual experience because it makes them so much more intense.

Unfortunately, I have two problems. The first is that I tend to like to edge, and I almost always lose my self-control and end up cumming. =OP That I just have to work on.

The second is more of a bear. I usually masturbate right before sleep. It relaxes me and usually puts me out like a light. If I don’t do this, however, I find I’m horny and simply cannot go to sleep. And usually I end up giving in and jacking off just so I can finally sleep and not lay there for hours trying. Anyone else have this problem, and if so, have you found any solutions for it? Seems like you’re addicted to masturbation - When was the last time you went for more than a week without doing it?

Your second problem can be solved, and solved easily. Try not to oversleep and go to bed when you’re exhausted. Go for a run/workout just before sleeping.

I had a similar problem - solved it when I started doing 12 hour shifts. :)

Ever heard about Pavlov? He proved with his dogs that a certain reaction can be expected when you still use the same trigger. You have the same thing, masturbation is your trigger for sleep. Quit masturbating until you are way to sleepy and you will fall asleep. When you want to masturbate, do it in the morning, so there will not be any connection between sleep and masturbation :) .

You could also use Paul McKenna`s “Sleep like a log” hypnosis series which solved my sleeping problems.

Don’t worry I am 43 and still need to have sex before I go to sleep or I have insomnia. If no partner is available then I have no choice but to masturbate. I think that this is a preferred method to sleeping pills or watching soccer.

Melatonin. Not only does it help you sleep but it slightly decreases sex drive.

Use it to break your habit (if that is what you want) - because that is all that it is.

I will say this: you won’t ever have a wet dream if you maintain that rigorous masturbation schedule of yours. I used to keep a similar schedule when I was in my teens.

Then, when I joined the service, I went on a total abstinence plan for Basic Training. I wasn’t going to be someone that the guys made fun of if I got caught playing with Mr. Happy. The solution was to be above reproach. On the 28th night of basic it happened; and in the morning I woke to find I had cum in my military issue briefs (tighty whiteys are a better choice than boxers if you are doing a lot of marching in hot, humid weather - but I digress). Some habits are hard to break.

My suggestion is you re-evaluate your goals. Why not find a girl to sleep with? They are more fun than a wet dream any day of the week.

I am in the same situation bro. And it’s true I can’t even remember when my last wet dream happened :-/

Like other said, Pavlov’s shadow is upon people like us. Those kind of conditioning are very hard to break, my personal view is that one need to change a lot of things in ones life to be able to get rid of those vicious circles.

I’m currently working on it: going back to the gym, meditation, and p.e (I do p.e not long before going to bed, so it gives me a good motivation not to masturbate right after the training). Whatever works best for you, I believe the main point is to try to replace the masturbation by something else.

So far, what as worked best for me is this: when I really feel like I’m going to touch myself, I do it at least 30 mins/1h before going to bed. This way, it tends to break the masturbate/fall asleep association.

Well, the supplement I mentioned has a low dose of melatonin in it, and I have noticed it (along with 5-HTP) does help me sleep a bit easier and better, which is cool. Some nights (like last night, though I had j/o earlier in the day) I can fall asleep fine without masturbating.

I also have been working out regularly (at least 3 times a week and usually 4 or 5), and that’s definitely improved my overall well-being, though I can’t say I always sleep better afterwards - it seems to energize me more after I’m done working out. Though I probably do sleep better than if I haven’t done much physical activity for the day.

I don’t want to give the impression I’ve *never* edged successfully either. I have, but I still fail more often than not. Lol.

Just make sure you watch a boring soccer match between two weak teams where the ball stays in the middle of the field most of the time. If you watch a match ( Brazil vs France ) for example you will never sleep as the game may gets you so excited. :D
