reliable method to measure girth?

would wrapping an iphone charger cord around my girth and then measuring the recorded circumfrence up to a ruler be an accurate measurement?

Go to a craft store or sewing store and buy a cloth tailors tape.

They sell soft tape measures at most hardware stores. Come to think of it they sell lots of stuff used in PE.

I used a dollar pretty sure using the cord inflated my numbers.

Cords don’t like to bend enough. I tried with a variety of old cords, never panned out to reliable. The cloth measuring tape or a folded piece of paper are reasonably reliable for a girth measurement. I’d trust the tape more exact than a dollar/piece of paper but the paper is a good method as long as you apply it the same way each time.

Here’s how I do it. I cut out a strip of receipt paper, usually from Walmart. Cut it at least an inch longer than your girth. It has a bunch of writing on the back of it, it’s paper thin, and the writing lines act as markers to compare where you measure at. After you’ve taken a bunch of measurements, put that piece of paper on a ruler and check whatever line of writing you got to to see how you did.

Just throwing in a question here, how hard should you press the tape around your shaft? If i just gently roll it around or if i really push it i get very different results. I find it kind of strange that everyone is saying how important it is to measure BP when it comes to length but girth is just each to its own.

I feel like they know each time they seem me looking at a clamps, or an o-ring or whatever.

I would just be consistent with your self. And prob measure a few times and take yeh average.

How/where you measure is gonna be just as important as what you use because you’ll need to ensure you don’t pull too tight and measure around the same area of the shaft to avoid varying results.

My first girth measurements were with a tailor’s tape, but it was hard to be accurate. I prefer to use a 12” length of twisted nylon construction stringline, which has negligible stretch. It’s easy to wrap & then mark with your thumb & finger where the end meets the string. Then measure that length against a ruler.

I use a tailors tape and just make sure its touching all the way around but not tight. Fairly easy to get a consistent reading.

I’ll try both the tape & the string for awhile & see if my early impression was off; definitely could’ve been. A string doesn’t take much space in a little hidey box along with the 6” ruler (6” is ok for now but I hope to need a longer ruler soon!)
