I am a bit surprised and very much enchanted to encounter that depth of philosophy in a PE forum. That’s really nice!
I see your point, and can’t contradict at all. All what I mentioned are categories in which one excels because one wants it. Therefore, the free will is the top-level concept and without the free and conscious will being positive nothing beyond will work. So it is.
By writing this, a different concept comes to my mind: excellence through intentional non-willing. That would be an alternative mindset. Like in Zen archery. Freeing the mind from all desire for action, feelings and thoughts. Naturally, from a Western point of logic, this too is an intentional act of the free and conscious will, but the end state is, in my view, kind of mindless.
That’s not a contradiction per se, just an idea to be debated especially for simple and repetitive manual techniques. I mainly think about jelqing. Could be done in a kind of a jelq-meditation which is independent of thoughts, feelings and will.
Just a wild idea, nothing more :-) Maybe we have some martial arts folks in here which can better translate what I learned frin Tai Chi.
