EuropeUnited,
You have quoted me a little bit out of context, making it to look as if I would pledge for PE without preparation. I DO recommend warming up – if there is a possibility to do it - for safety and for all the benefits posted already.
A better quote was
“… I do PE for almost 6 months without warming up (no time and intimacy for it) and have no complaints. Anyway, I always do mild stretching and rotations (instead of hot wraps) to drive away the tissue rigidity before beginning the work-out. …”
I’m just trying not to be fanatic about warming up. Let me explain.
The direct effect of hot wraps, IR lamp, etc. Is mainly superficial. I mean it affects mainly the skin. It doesn’t really warm up the inner tissues, as the body has protective mechanisms to keep it’s inner environment unchanged. Thermal protection mechanisms are part of homeostasis, by extension.
In my opinion, the positive effect of warming up for PE is an increased blood flow to the unit (to drive away the excess heat) and a relaxation of the muscles in the CC. These effects could be obtained in other ways also. There could be an analogy with the preparation athletes do before their work out. They don’t go to sauna, but are stretching mildly their ligaments and muscles and do light muscular effort before beginning the hard work. It is called warm up, without implying a heating device.
