Consider the Linear Routine (do a search for this). It’s a “less is more” approach that is quite safe. No reason to not start with this approach, you may gain well with it. The issue many wind up having with PE is having back off due to being overzealous at the first sign of gains and enduring an injury.
Also you can actually even toughen up, though not injure, your ding-dong by doing too much too soon and having it become resistant to the exercises.
The common theme most vets will say is to remember that PE is a marathon, not a sprint. More, harder, more intense may not be better. Good form, patience, & dedication to a routine will serve you well.
