How hard should I be to jelq - and how do I tell when I am?

Hi, first-time poster here, so forgive me if I mess up. I just got into PE a few weeks ago, and I’ve been following the Linear Newbie Routine (Linear Newbie Routine). So, I’ve been jelqing, and I suspect I’ve been doing it wrong. My problem is, I don’t know how hard you need to be to get the most out of jelqing - I’ve seen posts on here recommending anything from 50% to 70% erection. I figured the best way to go would be to just split the difference and go for 60% erect jelq, but that’s where my second problem comes in - how do you know what "percentage" of erect you are? I apologize for jelqing questions, I’m sure you’re all sick and tired of answering them, but I’d love some help with this. Thanks in advance.

Really comes down to personal preference. It doesn’t have to be exact down to the %. I like to jelq more flaccid since that correlates to length work. More erect concentrates on girth.

Percentages for erection level are a very inaccurate measurement really, unless you’re talking close to 100% or 0%. I’d be surprised if your idea of 60% is the same as mine for example.

Personally I just jelq away and let it drift anywhere from flaccid to full erection and adjust the grip tightness accordingly.

There are two styles of jelqing and that is for length and for girth. For length, you want to be less erect, so you can feel the stretch with each jelq stroke. For girth, you want more of a full flaccid, so you can feel the internal pressure build up and expansion with each stroke.


The primary goal of PE should be to make your penis as healthy as possible in both form and function. If you do that, increased size will follow.

I see. I need a lot of work in the girth department and a not inconsiderable amount as length goes as well, so I should probably start out flaccid and just keep going for, say, ten minutes or so, huh?

For girth I like about 90% erect meaning just about full size, but still flexible and not hard. The time depends on your level of conditioning, so if just starting, go for 5 minutes and slowly work your way into longer routines.
