Infrared Lamps

Hey guys! I was reading around on Thunder’s and I saw that many people used 150-200 W lamp bulbs, but I can’t find lamps that support over 60 watts. Would 60W be powerful enough? If not, where can I find a more powerful lamp

You should be able to get a 100W or 150W philips lamp or globe if you look around online and ebay. 100W in my opinion is the best I certainly don’t want something any hotter and the phillips bulb is excellent quality.

In principle, infrared lamps are expected to produce a maximum heat … instead of lighting lamps. Standard lamps are designed for light bulbs (60 W, usually). An infrared lamp, 60 W even (if it does exist) will heat too much. So you have tu use an appropriate lamp for this purpose.

I have 100w, not good enough. Heating pad is far better.

I have a Phillips 150w and it heats me up pretty good

I bought my heat lamp reflector WITH ceramic socket (important for 250 watts) with the IR bulb both from WalMart, but that was a few years ago, still going strong with the first bulbs! I don’t know if they still carry it. Look in the Hardware section. And yes, its the 250 watt bulb, really does the job.

250w? Dang.. I guess I have to order it online? Sparky, what kind of lamp (not bulb) do you use? Because I can’t find any lamps that accept over 60W bulbs.. All of them are 60 W maximum

Can’t edit my previous post for some reason.. Sorry for the double post. Everyone’s saying different things, I’m not sure what to buy.. 250W sounds pretty hot, but I cannot buy any 250w bulbs in PetsMart or any pet store here. And I can’t find lamps that will allow me to fit any bulbs.. Exept brooder lamps. Is that what you guys are using?

It was a clamp aluminum reflector with a ceramic socket which is important for a 250 watt bulb.

It looked like this, but has a ceramic socket.

I looked into it further and this IS the one I got, rated up to 300 watts and has the Ceramic socket.

I can’t find the bulb on the Walmart site, but this is what I used, and its on Amazon.com

Actually I think I have the Philips bulb, and you can buy it at Home Depot:

They have the Brooder light with ceramic socket also rated at 300 watts

You can get these at pet stores easier, they are used for heating reptiles.

Usually Pet stores have a much bigger mark up than Walmart or Home Depot.

Determination, I went to PetsMart yesterday and they only had up to 150W. It cost like 15 bucks too.. I’ll check Walmart :P

I bought it from home depot :D it’s frikkin bright though.. Oh well, it’s pretty warm too. I hope my roomie doesnt see the light =____= thanks a lot sparky, I’m hoping this will improve my gains.
