Hanging vs. extender

Hi. I’ve searched the threads, but I can’t find a clear discussion of what the pros/cons of each is. They both aim at increasing length, right? So, why do people on this site seem to discuss hanging so much more? Is it more effective? Which would be the best purchase for someone just leaving the “noobie” stage? Thanks.

Traction, defined by Webster’s is: a pulling force exerted on a skeletal structure (as in a fracture) by means of a special device. Also : a state of tension created by such a pulling force.

Extenders are based on traction, which one would also receive when hanging.

Dino and Oki are right, do both if you can.

I have both. I would go with the hanger because you can add weights to give it a better stretch. On days you don’t feel like dong a full workout session you can use your extender.

Lately I have been hanging than straight from hanging after a small get the blood flowing break I use the extender.

Is there any real benefit to an extender over hanging, though? I don’t really want to pay for both if I can get basically the same benefits from just one.

An extender is a little easier to use than a hanger, however, it offers less possibility for continuing gains since it is limited in its range of motion.

Hanging is much more difficult to master, but offers many more possibilities in terms of adjustment of angle and weight. Combining traction wrapping or ADS with hanging seems to get the best results, though, which is why Dino suggests you do both, (as he does).

Both devices can be made with less than $20 of parts found at your local “big box” hardware store.
