Early stall - ramp up, take break, or persevere?

I’ve been on the newbie routine for nearly three months now, and while I’ve seen some small gains in the first half of that time, in the latter half my progress seems to have kind of stalled.

What I’ve been doing (on a 2 on 1 off schedule):

10 minutes of warming up, 2 sets of 30 second stretches (down, up, left, right, straight out), 5 minutes jelqing, 5 minutes warming down (all in the shower). After a week I increased both stretching and jelqing times, but noticed some red spots / broken capillaries after doing so, so I scaled it back down.

A few weeks later I increased both stretching and jelqing times again (3 sets and 10 minutes respectively, also switched from dry to wet jelqs going by recommendations here), this time without getting the red spots. That’s also when I noticed the girth gain. I’ve stuck to that volume since then.

The only thing I’ve added during the last month are some light stretches throughout the day.

What I’ve been seeing:

- Month 1: 1/8” increase in girth, no length gains
- Month 2: 1/16” in both length and girth, although I’m not discounting these merely being measurement discrepancies due to slightly improved EQ
- Month 3: no gains

Would you suggest to 1) keep at it using the above described volume, 2) ramp it up a bit, or 3) take a break?

I realise the newbie routine recommends increasing jelq time to 30 minutes after 6 weeks, I guess I was just a bit hesitant because of the red spots I got after my first attempt at increasing it.

Me personally, I’d take 3 weeks off.

After that, I’d start back with my normal routine. You should see some stronger Physiologic Indicators on your break and then, I’d say if you don’t feel gains in your first 2 or 3 weeks back on, to ramp it up a little if your PIs stay solid and you don't get red spots.

That’s how I’d play it.

Thanks, TG. Much appreciated.

Just wondering, 3 weeks? Even though that one time I had some red spots was after 1 week in the first month and not having had any negative PIs since? I feel like I’m being punished. :D

I really don’t want to be ‘that guy’ who asks something and then ignores the answers - and I’ll gladly listen if you think a 3 week break is in order - but if anything I would have thought I was doing too little rather than too much.

EQ has been really good during months 2 & 3.

The trick isn’t that you’re hurt. Three weeks gives you a chance to gain from less stimuli. You don’t rest just to recover. You also give yourself a chance to gain better. After all, without extended time off eventually gains would stall due to accumulated conditioning.

Makes sense. :) Extended time off it is.

Cheers!

New goal for 2019: 5+ inches girth

My length routine: a few single 1-minute fulcrum stretches a day. Yes, that's all.

Those were some long 3 weeks. Back at it as of today. Not lost any of the girth I gained, which I’m quite happy about.

Going to reset my routine to what I started out with, 2 sets of stretches and 5 minutes jelqing, slightly increasing volume each week barring any return of red spots. 2 days on, 1 off.

I knew you wouldn’t take any losses. Now just take it easy and watch what happens now. You’re on the right track.

Cheers. Any ideas how to focus on length at this point? I’ve read that jelqing at lower erection levels is helpful for that, while jelqing at higher erection levels targets girth more.

Problem I have is that my erection level increases pretty quickly while jelqing (even when stretching, which is why I have to pause for a minute or two between sets), and I suspect that is why I’ve only gained girth but no length as opposed to a little bit of both.

Most people seem to gain length first and more easily than girth. And it’s said it’s harder to gain length later with girth already having increased. Maybe I should only increase the stretching part of the routine while keeping to 5 minutes jelqing for the first few months? Look into ADS?

I can sense your frustration but the jelq doesn’t only target one thing. So, despite your higher erection levels you should get length at some point. But if you want to scale the jelq back then increase stretching that may help also.

I almost never recommend the ADS. It is a limited benefit device with such a varied usage pattern that it has too many scenarios where you over train as a result of it rather than see more benefits because of it.

Back to stretching, I like a fulcrum stretch like the A-Stretch and also stretching along the inner thigh towards the knee. Those I feel are good things in your situation but…these are just a small bit of what you can try.

Cool, I’ll just put an emphasis on stretching then, and look at adding fulcrum stretches. Thanks again, TG! :)

Re-posting this here rather in my progress thread (admin: sorry, delete as applicable if necessary)

Measured tonight - a day early, but after 2 off days I wanted to measure before the session. It’s now 2 months after the 3-week break, and no gains in either length or girth.

Since the restart I had slowly increased the amount of stretches and jelqs over the course of a month to 2 sets of 4 30-second stretches, 2 sets of 4 20-second fulcrum stretches, and ~100 wet jelqs.

I genuinely don’t think I’m doing too much. EQ is good, no bad PIs. Just no gains either.

Any input on this? Much appreciated.

Well first, two months ain’t a lot of time to see gains. I have gone aN entire year or more. It just is a matter of letting go of the ruler and keeping tabs every 4-8 weeks. How often have you measured during this time?

Only twice, once each month. Keep in mind that I also went ~2 months before the break in November without seeing gains. So it’s really 4 months without gains, not counting the 3-week deconditioning break in between. Pretty much all my gains so far were the ones I’ve had during the first month, i.e. a little bit of girth gains. Possibly just an EQ increase, I reckon.

Everyone doesn’t show gains from month to month. It’s as simple as that. I tell guys daily that ramping up without having seen gains recently is not usually the answer. I’d take a couple weeks off, try some new tactics instead of ramping up. I don’t know exactly how long to tell you to try something since your PE history is so limited and your gains haven’t really told you what your penis prefers as far as PE is concerned. Usually your dick will tell you what it likes. Honestly, I’m at a loss in your case other than rest and re-evaluate. That’s what I would do and have done in your case. But…usually I wait 6 months these days if I have a good feeling about something before I chalk it. THAT is just me, because I’ve been at it a long time though.
