Capt'n I Need Your Help

I’ve been trying to make a Capt’n Wench ADSer, but I cannot find the 1/2 inch grippers.
Today I went to, Homedepot, Rona, Sears, and Canadian Tire; but non of them carriered them.
Where could I purchase the grippers needed for the wench in Vancouver B.C. Canada!?

All kinds of stuff have been used - thick large scented erasers (book stores, teenage girls section), paint stirrers (thin wood), mouse mats and so on.

By the way, another alternative is the rubber used in tire mats - auto stores, maybe Homedepot, carry nondescript floor mats made of thin semi-pliable rubber.
