Definitely it is wrong to hold the grip as tight as you are doing.
Best thing is ease off completely for a few days until all the spots have gone. As you are only irritating them by exercise.
Then When you re-start take it very easy. It isn’t a race to see who can hold the tightest. You simply want to cause slight tears in the tissue, which then have to heal. But by using too much pressure they never get the chance to heal so spots are the result.
