A lot of people are saying that a million bucks is not that much any more. Well, it’s true that it is not enough for a young guy to retire (unless he lives very frugally). In fact, a lot of nice houses cost more than that, though in most places you could get a very nice house for that price. But if you did, you would then be out of money! Even with that said, if you consider that you would still have your current assets and income, and a million bucks on top of it that you don’t need to live, then you can do a lot with that money. Get rid of your debt, increase your standard of living, buy a business or other money making investment opportunities that you don’t have now. Or a vacation home, that you can use to generate income by renting it part time, etc. Or invest at 8% and don’t touch it and if you can earn 9% on your money you will then have 2 million dollars to spend after 8 years. Or take a year off and have a vacation of lifetime, seeing the whole world. A million bucks is still a nice chunk of change.
