So this has been bothering me for a while now.

So I’m young and enjoy watching porn whenever I find myself alone with my computer like most people at my age.
I know it can be addicting and hard to stop but I don’t want to watch porn every time I find myself alone.
Any advice guys?
And also, what about masturbation/jacking off?
I am still debating if I should cut it down to once every other day or once a week or once in a while or whenever I get a hard or maybe never.

Ah, the internet. The youth of today is presented with a challenge others have not had to face. In my day, we had “magazines”, lol. Next came the VCR. Now, you can watch whatever you want, brought straight to you in the privacy of your man-cave. How much easier could it be? Porn addiction will become an issue to be reckoned with in this generation.

There are a number of problems with porn.

Firstly, you soon tire of watching the same old stuff and you start getting jaded, watching the kinkier stuff.
Secondly, it gives you a twisted view of women and you start objectifying them.
Thirdly, you start assuming that what you see on the screen is what sex is actually like.
Fourth, you train yourself to be aroused and responsive to these images, and when you are with a “real” woman, the sex just doesn’t measure up to what you’re conditioned to.

All that being said, I must confess to watching porn, although, at this time I use it solely as a PE tool during jelqing & clamping.

I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for you. I won’t say that porn is totally evil; on the contrary, couples can use it to enhance their love life. Just be careful that it doesn’t take precedence in your life over everything else.

As to masturbation, I believe the “use-it-or-lose-it” philosophy works as well for the prostate gland as it does for any muscle. However, if I masturbated every time I had an erection I would get locked away by men in white lab coats.

Dr. Oz says 3 times a week is sufficient for healthy prostate function if you are willing to buy into his ideas (I’m not a big Dr Oz fan).

I’ve abused porn for half my life (I’m 30 now) and I know for a fact it has stunted my growth, both personally and sexually. My advice is if you’re going to look at it, do it in moderation: don’t look at it every time you go online. Also, stay away from the super hardcore/kinky stuff.

As for masturbation, the jury is still out for me.

Start/April 2011: BPEL - 6.75" / NBPEL - 6.00" / BEG - 5.125 / Mid Shaft - 4.75 / Glans 4.5"

Current/August 8 2011: BPEL 7.25" / NBPEL - 6.375" / BEG - 5.625" / Mid Shaft - 5.00" / Glans - 4.875"

Goals: NBPEL - 8.25" / Mid Shaft EG - 6.00"

As others have eluded to, I think it depends on the type of porn. Looking at pictures similar to what you’d see in playboy (or even of women masturbating) isn’t nearly as damaging as looking at bukkake, DP, or the like.

I didn’t notice any sexual problems related to porn myself until recently when I began not getting as excited about sex because I was used to seeing more explicit things. Perhaps the effects of porn are cumulative.

Although it sounds like you are addicted, if you’re single and young I wouldn’t worry about it too much, though it can become a real problem when you’re in a long term relationship.

My advice would be to slowly decrease the frequency and intensity of the media you are consuming and eventually you’ll be off of it completely.

10/10 (start): 7.25x5.25

07/11: 7.79x5.7

Goal: 9x7

Negotiate things with yourself, man. Prohibition is the worst you can do. Lack of control too. A bit of porn is fine. You have to make a deal with yourself. Better if nobody tells you anything. After all it is your body, your mind, your life: your responsibility. Nobody knows you better than you (at least it should be so). Try to canalize this energy during the day for something else: sports, learning a musical instrument or a craft, learning about female psychology and “dating science” (so that you can learn how to get THEM to do the hand job)… anything that makes your mind/body work. Be more outdoorsy and this will give you more motivation for your life, you’ll have another sources of pleasure thus leading you to find the right balance in no time.

You seem concerned and that is a sign that you might watch to much porn. Most people watch porn and I can see why, it‘s nice. But if you are worried you watch to much try to watch less?

I’ve cut down on porn quite dramatically and now my erections are hard as fork

In all honestly if I could go back to when I was a young boy and edit all the pornography I had seen from then until now I really wish I had not seen some of the hardcore type material such as Hentai, BDSM, rape type stuff. I feel that stuff tainted my mind somewhat which I do not like. So my advice would be to stay away from that stuff completely.

Basically anything that most women would be unwilling to do in real life or anything that you will most likely never experience in real life can deaden the pleasure and beauty you will experience from real sex. I would recommend not taking away from the real experience.

I would like to add some things about what sleepy278 said;

I would agree that as I said above you should avoid the kinkier stuff. I wish to God I had never seen some of the pornographic images I had seen over the years.

It will enhance your natural inclination to objectify women. We all objectify women because they are the object of our desires and vica versa and there is nothing wrong per se with that, but with consistent porn I think it makes us more critical then we should naturally be. Also I want to add that it can decrease your arousal to real women because you have seen so many images that are often the best shots in a controlled environment (ligthing, angle, makeup, etc.) So you may find the real experience less pleasurable than it could have otherwise been.

Remember that when you are viewing pornography you are taking that part of an observer not a participant (real sex) which can wire you brain for viewing instead of doing. Remember the visual is usually different with real sex.

In my opinion except for the really kinky stuff alot of the sex on screen is similar to real life. I guess what I’m trying to say is that except for the dumb unlikely plot lines, porn and real sex are in many ways not too much different. The penises are bigger and the guys last way longer, women in porn are sometimes slightly more expressive but in general it is like real sex. Not sure why people say it is so different?

Be smart about it though read about how to be a better lover. Though porn can teach you alot about sex and how to be a better lover you have to be very discerning about it and think about it first.

I would say again avoid the really kinky and hardcore stuff and keep it to a moderate amount. Other than that I don’t really think it is harmful.

Bayareajase,

Does it conflict with your moral or religious views?

Always glad to see I shut a thread right down. Seems I have a habit of doing that. :(

You shut it down in a good way, by answering the question with good, solid advice; nothing to feel down about. :-)
