Your opinion on SSRIs (experienced or not) PrE related

Your opinion on SSRIs (experienced or not) PrE related

For the last month I’ve been reading up on SSRIs for premature ejaculation (PrE).

My original thoughts were, were that my health is more important than my PrE.
But I tell you, the more I try and deal with PrE, the more frustrating, and depressing it gets.
So I tried Tramadol, which I guess works similar to other drugs like Paxil and Prozac. I wish I could find studies comparing it to paxil, but I can’t find anything anywhere.

Now Tramadol helped a bit, but not enough to make a difference. I mean 1 minute or 3 minutes is an improvement, but doesn’t satisfy anyone. I’m lucky my girl orgasms in a few minutes, but I don’t care, I want to be able to last long.

I wasn’t too worried about taking a drug before intercourse, just didn’t want to use it on a regular basis to get the side effects. I know these drugs can really mess up your brain.

Now from all the studies I’ve read, you get the best effect from taking it regularly, I believe it keeps your serotonin levels at it’s highest.

Now I never wanted to do that, but a) Most studies they are on a very low dose and b) It’s not forever, it’s usually 4 to 6 months then stop.

So it’s not sounding like a too bad of an idea.

I read the other threads on it, but I want some more experiences of people that have stopped taking it and how they are doing now, people who never took it and have an opinion, etc.
Is a lower than normal dose for depression going to give side effects? I’m very body conscious and I read about weight gain on it… mind you I guess it would be your diet that would determine that, unless it affects your thyroid or metabolism?

Please share.

*Note* I’d like to speak to a doctor, but I’m in a smaller city and I’m sure my doctor is not too familiar with SSRIs for premature ejaculation. And my doctor is a bit weird to begin with, so I don’t really feel comfortable getting advice from him, so I’m searching for advice here.

I’m afraid this isn’t really a reply to your post. Mainly because not too many people may have tried the drugs you are using.

But you may be ablae to overcome the problem by simply having a quick orgasm, then have a rest, and trying again.

Very often the ‘second go’ lasts rather longer, as the excitment has died down a little.

Hope that helps

But as a thought. Have you tried the manufacturer’s site for any information, and possibly help?

I was prescribed Zoloft during my second year in grad school.

Just about lost my mind.

That drug made the emotional problems I was going through at the time seem like a walk in the park.

As a general rule, I am strongly opposed to using these sorts of medications for help with Premature Ejaculation. Even if the dosage is lower when they are used for this purpose playing with the chemistry of the brain in this way is a very iffy proposition.

I would think this route should only be used as the last resort after other options have been exhausted: acupuncture, hypnosis, or the techniques outlined in The Multi-Orgasmic Man: Sexual Secrets Every Man Should Know and similar types of literature. A lot can be accomplished going these routes.

Think it over thoroughly.

These drugs change your brain chemistry; you only get one brain.

I did Paxil for my colitis and within 72 hours my penis was a numb piece of rubber. I couldn’t even feel anything rubbing it against a cheese grater. So we soon ditched that. Zoloft worked well for me, but I had tremendous backpain with it.

Anyhow, just staring into a woman’s eyes as well as she into yours changes brain chemistry, and also everyday life is constant chemistry, so any cognition makes it brain chemistry at work again. But I digress.

Perhaps you could research TCM/accupuncture for this?

I tried looking for hypnotherapy and your stated problem, but found pages of shit. I used hypnotherapy before for stress related to my colitis and it worked well for me. It was basically a specific version of stress reduction with that issue instead of a genral one. I believe even an off-target application can assist in a bigger solution though.

Other options of discovery hopefully that can be applied to said situation.

This is what I think would work the best. It worked for me, when I started edging three years ago.

Ivan,

A med student here who has taken Paxil and tramadol in the past, but not for premature ejaculation issues. I took Paxil for about a year for generalized anxiety and it helped me greatly. I tapered down and eventually stopped, but had to start taking it again due to severe insomnia. It is not easy to stop if you’ve been taking it for a long time and you would surely have to use it regularly to help with PrE. When I was taking it I did not notice any difference in my staying power but then again I didn’t have a problem to begin with. I’ve been off it for about 6 months now after another attempt a stopping. Your body does get used to it and I’ve heard horror stories about trying to come off it. I would strongly recommend avoiding taking SSRI’s for PrE. Use them only as an absolute last resort. It very well could help with PrE but it could cause a list of other problems instead. Have you tried practicing with your girlfriend to build up staying power? I remember the first time I had sex I lasted exactly 5 seconds, but we just had sex all night long and each time I last longer until I couldn’t get off at all. Have you tried “pre-gaming” it yet? There are probably about a million ways to last longer… but I don’t know how severe your PrE is, how long you’ve had it, or what you’ve tried to treat it. Best of luck.

If all else fails, contact Tom Cruise and his team of Scientologists. I’m sure they can help you.

Thanks for all the advice.
I don’t think hypnotherapy would work for me, you never know.
I’d be interested in acupuncture, but I have a feeling I’d have a hard time finding one for this in my city.

I am very hard on myself, and expect the best out of myself, which is why I am so desperate.

I’m going to look into the acupuncture and see what I can find. I don’t even know if it’s just general acupuncture that is supposed to cure it, or a special type.

Thanks again.

Hello IvanDrago

I am taking SSRI now, but I do not have a girl right now.
I have got an ok erection, but ejaculation is slightly harder to achieve when masturbating.

I would advice against using SSRI to fix your PrE.

Try to go for two ejaculations if you can get a new erection quickly.
And start to learn edging and practice multiple orgasms, the control itself might be able to help you. And develop a strong BC muscle.

How old are you?
Since you have been reading about it for a month I assume that you have “practiced” lasting longer with your girl for some time.

Remember a short time is still fun :)

I’m 26. Yes I have been practicing, it’s just frustrating. Seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Well I purchased those condoms with the stuff on the inside, forget the name of it, to make you numb.
It worked really well.
I tried it years ago and I think I didn’t wait for the numbing to kick in, so it didn’t work.

Lasted about 5 minutes. And same with the tramadol, if I stop for a bit I can keep going without the urge quickly coming back. Only downfall is I don’t really like wearing condoms, and it has a bit of a smell, but I’ll take the smell rather than relying on SSRIs.

That being said, I’m going to try it with tramadol 25mgs, just to see how they work together.
