Vasectomy

I have searched and read the threads on this site about Vasectomies but would still appreciate some information from the guys that have had this procedure done.

I went for an appointment at the hospital today and I should get the operation done in the next 4 or 5 months.

I can either have local or general anesthetic.

What concerns me is on the information sheet it says I could experience pain for many months after the operation.

Also a swelling can develop if the sperm leaks into the Scrotum.

What is your experience?

Don’t worry about it. The worst pain I felt was when the doctor gave me a shot in the balls. Dam, that made my toes curl, but it was only for a few seconds, then I was numb. I also kept a bag of frozen peas between legs for the rest of the day and the following. On the third day I was fine. The second day really doesn’t hurt, you just feel pressure. Don’t wait months to get this done, just do it as soon as possible. Just get it over with.

I was fine an hour later. Mountain-biking two days later. YMMV. There are all kinds of horror stories, but it’s basically a simple operation which causes no major trauma to the body (just the mind :-) As TJ said, the local anesthetic made me cringe for a few seconds, then there was vague sensation of tugging for about a minute or two, then it was done.

Same here. I was sweating so bad I completely soaked the sheet on the surgical chair I was laying on. The doc injects lidocaine into your vas def and other than a little sting there, the sensation is like pulling something out of you around your balls. My doc took a larger section out of my vas, cauterized the end and then pulled the upper part up and stitched it so as to minimize any chance of a vasectomy failure.

I was sore for a few days and noticed some bruising for a week around the base of my cock. Once a week went by I began getting myself off to clear out any remaining sperm and went in for my test. The info sheet I received said you can get off up to ten times after a vasectomy and still have sperm in the tubes so clearing yourself out a week or two after the procedure then getting your semen tested is the only way to prove you are sterile.

After I was all healed up and tested clear it was smooth sailing.

You can get a no scalpel procedure done that is less invasive and you have a faster recovery time. Google search that and you should be able to find a doc in your area who is familiar with it.

Hope that helps.

Very helpful guys, thanks.

The main thing that is worrying me is that my scrotum is and always has been tight and my balls (especially the right one) are close to my body, sometimes going into my body when it is cold or fearful situations, like hospitals :)

I think this could make the operation difficult for the surgeon.
I did mention this but it was difficult to get a reply.

Also in the literature he gave me to read it says 5% will be left with chronic testicular pain or sperm granuloma, this scares me.

I like the feeling of having a large volume of fluid travel from my nuts to out my dick. Do vasectomies substantially change that volume? I wold have to imagine they do. Are post-vasectomy loads different in appearance or consistency?

No difference in load or consistency at all.
Nothing to worry about at all. Hell if I had known it was this easy I probably would have done it 20 years earlier.

I’m small in stature, so when the doc pulled the tube down to give it a snip it felt as if someone was trying to rip my kidney’s out my dick. I felt that pain all the way up my sides. He gave me another shot of pain killer and all was fine. That was the only discomfort during the whole procedure. Once the anesthetic kicked in I was fine.

2 weeks later I came down with a minor post operation infection. My glands were a little swollen and tender. Some antibiotics and few days later all was well again.

Everybody’s different man. Some guys are back to fucking the next day (or mountain biking). Some take a little longer to heal up.
It was about a week for me. My nuts were sore. My advice, get a jock strap and wear it for the first couple of days afterwards. Your nuts will thank you. You might have a day of discomfort, or you might have a week like me. When it’s all said and done,
it’s no big freaking deal. Best thing I ever did.

Now I can make the wife as spunk drunk as I want and never have to worry about fucking myself out of place at the dinner table again. One more kid and something tells me I’d be the one sitting at the little card table in the corner. Then again that might not be all bad either. At least no one will knock their milk in my lap.

I was gonna say, RootCap's hot. - kitten

My balls have always been tight too and it was no problem. Just find a doc who has done a lot of the procedures. I did not notice a change in semen volume at all and from what I have read, sperm make up a very small percentage of the total load volume.

Wow! the truth can certainly hurt. This will certainly help the Nun prolong his surgery. But, you are right, it is too, one of the best thing I have ever done.

Total peice of cake

It is more unpleasant getting a tooth filled! Just make sure you are still for two days afterward, no physical activity. You will feel fine and will want to do things … . . Don’t. A friend did not heed the advice and did some light painting around the house and woke up the next morning with a sore pink fuzzy grapefruit between his legs! (Dr, relieve the pain, but can you leave the swelling?) It cleared with no Dr intervention, but it cost him a couple extra days recovery time. Go for it!

Thanks guys.

I want to get it done sooner but there is a waiting list or 4 or 5 months, so I need to be patient.

The surgeon has been performing Vasectomies for many years now.

No experience with the specific topic but two things to share:

Any time you can opt for a local rather than a general do so. A general anesthetic has the potential for side effects that you don’t want to risk.

Always have a bag of peas in the freezer. They are just about the best form fitting ice pack around.

This too happen to my Wife’s brother. After his surgery his friends bought beer and went to his house and they all started partying. The next day, my sister-in-law called and asked me to come over. She explained what had happen. I went in the bed room where my brother-in-law was lying. He lifted the blanket and removed the frozen bag of peas. Oh my gosh! his nut sack was as big as a grape fruit, huge and very shinny. I could not believe of the size that testicles can swell. We called the doctor and he told us to have him keep the peas on his nuts and stay in bed. Yes it did prolong his recovery time.

I got my surgery date through today.

I will be having it done under local anesthetic.

Is it wise to drive myself home (auto car) the 9 miles from the hospital? I do not have any family or friends in this area that can drive me there and back on the surgery date.

I was told to have someone pick me up, which I did, but I felt I could have driven myself. However, some people certainly can’t, and I wouldn’t know how to predict it. I have a very high tolerance to pain, and to anesthetics, it seems, so that may be an indicator. Have you had surgery before?

Consider a taxi. Is your surgery in the morning? They usually are, here, and almost always on Fridays. If you can find a good place to rest for a couple of hours, you might be OK.
