Sexual Addicts

I have been a member of all types of groups, clubs and forums on the internet. I have to admit that the vast majority of them have been of a sexual nature. Mainly pictures and conversations.

Yahoo! has been my favorite home but because they are a little money hungry or just plain stupid, it has been hard to find much interest in Yahoo! groups. So I had gotten into the habit of venturing around MSN. MSN isn’t as structured as Yahoo! but it was an option.

Since I am not a big fan of MSN, I don’t frequent the groups on there much at all. As a matter of fact, I am rarely on MSN and Yahoo! much. Upon deciding to go through my memberships on MSN, I came across a group that had recently closed. That’s not usual. What was usual was the message left behind.

The owner of the group apparently feels he suffers from sexual addiction. He urges any of his members who frequent any sites pertaining to porn, to seek help. He provided a site one could go to to get information about sexual addictions.

I laughed it off but in the back of my head I had to wonder could I be considered a sexual addict. It is really far fetched but I had to investigate.

Upon investigating many site talking about sexual addictions, I found that I was more confused than when I began. There was no where that gave a clear view of what really was considered a sexual addiction.

I found test to take but it just lead to say if you answer yes to one, you could be… Yet, answering yes to one of the questions on many of the test would make everyone a sexual addict.

Does looking at pictures of nude people or short videos of men and women engaging in sex make a person sexually addicted even just a little bit?

I know I am not even close to the definition, but I thought I’d ask anyway.

You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Addiction could be to a substance (alcohol for example) or a process (sex or execise). The addicted seems not to be able to moderate thier consumption or activities in spite of the fact that it has affected health or relationships or legal status in a negative way.

Egs. I continue to run 10 miles in spite of multiple injuries.
I continue to drink and drive. I continue to frequent strip bars and hookers in spite of my wife threatening to divorce me.

Check it out guys, no need to have a big dick if you ain't gonna use it!!

All addictions start from habits, theres healthy addictions and then theres unhealthy addictions. You could be addicted to jogging or painting, now that would be a healthy addiction, not that painting is benifeting your health but its healthy because it doesnt cause any problems. On the other hand if you were to paint all day every day, lets say for fun not money and it was stopping you from getting on with your every day life like eating, working, socializing and being involved in the real world, then that would be a problem. That would be a bad addiction because its holding you back and causing problems.(i used painting as an example because painting is a form of escape).SORRY but PE can be a bad addiction too, if you organize your life to revolve around PE like not working so that you have time and privacy to do your workouts and making PE the total focus of your life then PE can be, not is, a bad addiction.

A bad addiction causes personal problems,Menatal ,phisical and relationship problems but everyone has the ability to change what they do, but, if you want to continue doing something you know is NOT RIGHT because it gives you a certain feeling or takes you away then that is definitely a bad addiction.I have been addicted to a lot of things until i realized the cause of my addiction and got help for it and changed it, i thought it was an addictive personality but that is so untrue there is no such thing as a genetic disposition to have an addictive personality, only a cause for the addiction.Search deep and you will find it, talking about it is therapy in its self.

Addiction is the mistaking of intensity (with a substance or action) for intimacy. So these addicts confuse the act of copulation with a realtionship. It is not who they are having sex with, but instead how often. So to put it in plain English Grammar, the subject of the sentence is more concerned with the verb and ignores the object of the sentence. It is more enjoyable to be doing the act than doing to who.

I know Lewd Ferrigno personally.

Everyone’s limits of a substance or action before it hits addiction are different. Sex addiction is not unlike this. Some people can binge drink every weekend and never become an addict. Someone can recretionally use drugs and not get addicted to it. Some peole can gamble at the casino and not go insane or buy lottery tickets to a reasonable amount.

In my addictions psycholgy classes, they taught us that addiction is a brain disease. And recovery is only possible using a full bio-psycho-social model. Without all three your cutting legs off a stool your trying to balance your recovery on. For each one your missing that is one less leg out of three. Ignore all three and your doomed to failure.

In a recent BBC news article about sex “addiction”, they interviewed a number of doctors in the UK and they said that sex “addiction” is a US invention. According to them, human beings always exhibit a wide range of libido, and the higher end of this is not acceptable in some countries/cultures such as the US, and therefore it is labelled as a disease called “sex addiction”.

As in medical doctors? Or psychologists?

Psychologists have amassed a mountain of evidence showing both hypo and hyper sexuality is often psychologically biased.

The concept that hyper sexuality being a part of several psychological problems such as the manic phase of bi polar disorder. The idea of both addictive personalities and that almost anything can become an addiction in the psychological sense. I would be very surprised if all of these concepts were not well accepted by the international psychological community. Now if we are talking a physiological addiction a physical withdrawal that an MD would be concerned with, well, in that sense there is neither any such thing as sex addiction or the American invention of it (that I have heard of).

Unfortunately religious and puritanical groups have run away with the idea of psychological sexual addiction. Calling a mere imbalances in priorities concerning sex sexual addiction. It should be as clear to recognise a sex addict as a crack addict. When the crack takes control of you and your whole life is held hostage by it then that is the psychological addiction for crack. The same thing can and does happen with sex. No matter how high your libido is its not healthy to have sex and just sex (no relationship involved) your top priority. So while you may not really have a sexual addiction you can still recognise that you need to bring more balance into your life.

Do you have a sexual addiction?: Can you funciton\\ when you don’t get it? Is everything in your life organised around getting sex? Do you become unbearable to others when you aren’t getting enough? Can you say no when its clearly a bad decision? Can you just decide to say no just because? Do you feel like sex controls you or you control sex? Which would those closest to you say is in control you or sex?

Do you have a problem with your sexual priorities?: Do you take stupid health risks? Do you risk relationships that would really hurt you to lose for sex? Have you accrued a lot of debt for just sex? Is the pursuit of sex a the major root cause of the misery in your life?

In general dependence can be defined as behavior that is continued despite causing distress and or impaired social functioning.

Dependence is the preferred term to addiction.

The doctors they interviewed were psychiatrists, i.e. medical doctors.

This is really not true. The doctors interview are miss informed about the definition of this disorder. Doctors in the US are not “labeling” people who simply like to have a lot of sex. These people do not fit the definition. Look a my above posts.
