Seriously why is circumcision still done today

Thread Closed

Okay not sure if this has been mentioned in this post, but here’s my take on circumcision.

I will not be having any sons of mine getting circumcised at birth. If they want to later when they are adults then that is their call.

I know it is a relatively simply procedure performed in this day and age, however, I am not willing to take a chance on my son being that statistic that had his penis drastically deformed by a botched circumcision, or worse yet developing some type of infection that could possibly kill him.

What people fail to understand is this is still a surgery. You would be performing surgery on an otherwise healthy newborn. Why? Tradition? Sorry not for me. Again, I am not taking any chances with a newborn child’s health. Surgery on a newborn baby, for no other reason than tradition or religion is disgusting to me. There is no call for it, god or whatever made us, made us this way, there is no reason we should be tampering with it, especially when we are at our most vulnerable, that being a newborn baby. Now if for some reason complications should arise later in life, then I might reconsider, but as an infant newborn, no way.

I don’t care if most women think a circumcised penis looks better or not, I’d rather my son’s health not be at risk.

End of rant.

circumsion is something I thank my parents everyday for getting done to me while I was young.

Thank you.Thank you. Thank you

I found it interesting that many countries in europe don’t do this.

It’s definately the norm here in N.Amer.

I’m glad I am, cause I like to fit in.

However I agree it is a silly barbaric custom.

Too bad we do it here.

If I ever procreated, which I sure as hell hope I never do,

I’d leave my kid’s dong alone.

He can get it lopped off if he chooses when he’s older.

Just my opinion.

I still think cut looks better, but I’m cut so that’s really all I’ve ever seen.

I got mine removed because it was too tight, so at least it wasn’t for religious reasons!

I saw both my boys circumcised. They inject Novocain, put a bell around it and cut. The healing is no more than that of an umbilical cord / belly button healing.

Extra money the doctors can make related to a live birth.

Greed.

No other reason.

You’re forgetting religion and people convinced because they had it done to them, they should do it to others (My dad and mum did it to me, dad is cut)

Look how I turned out, turkey neck, tight skin, hair growing 2/3 of the way up the shaft, yeah fantastic, or you could have just left it alone…

Since everyone else is admitting their bias in the issue, I have my foreskin and wouldn’t leave home without it.

Phimosis is a tight foreskin that causes discomfort or restriction of the glans during an erection. Many men have to have the foreskin removed in later life due to the above problems.
When I have had to put in catheters on some uncircumcised men it is difficult, if not impossible, to retract the foreskin. Sometimes the foreskin retraction is more painful than the catheter.

You only see people w/ problems at hospitals. :)

Cleaning
Proper cleaning of an intact penis before natural foreskin separation occurs involves washing the exterior like a finger. No scrubbing or overzealous cleaning required.

Regular maintenance on an adult, is simply rinsing it off while retracted with your morning shower.

IMO a dirty glans on a older gentleman at the hospital is a result of it not getting rinsed out on a semi-regular basis.

Forced retraction
For some reason a lot of medical professionals in the US (not saying you do) think they are supposed to forcibly retract foreskins to clean underneath. Forced retraction of the foreskin is similar to ripping off fingernails (breaking connective tissue between mucous membrane and skin) . Strangely enough, forced retraction leads to lots of infections and phimosis.

Phimosis

From what I have read, Phimosis is often a miss-diagnosis in the United States. Normal foreskin separation from the glans can be anywhere from a few months until as late as the end of puberty (18).

Secondly, there is no reason to routinely circumcise every man to prevent this rare condition from happening. If it is needed as an adult, the man can get it done himself. Diagnosis of phimosis in non-circumcising countries is extremely low.

A child should be left intact! He should not be circumcised! The only exception is if there is a very good medical reason for that specific child, a medical necessity!

An adult can make an informed decision about his own body. If an adult wants elective surgery, then it is his body and his decision. A parent or doctor, no matter how well meaning, should not make this decision for the child. I know of no other instance where medical “professionals” preform unnecessary elective surgery to cut off a child’s healthy body part, on the very rare chance that sometime in the future it may cause a problem, maybe. WTF? It does not pass the “do no harm” test at all. What is the MEDICAL necessity?

The “it looks better” doesn’t pass the common sense test either. Who determines what looks better? I would think this decision would be left to the owner of the penis. His body, his decision.

The benefits of remaining intact, through out your life, far outweigh the unproven benefits of child circumcision. For both the owner of the penis and any current or future sex partners. Please do Internet searches and read for yourself and make your own decision. Also allow each male to make their own decision about their own body.

I wish my parents would have left me intact, and that the doctor who recommended I be circumcised had a brain.

Happy gains,

Herein lies the debate. My dad is uncut, and he CHOSE to circumcise his two boys. Why would he? He’s agnostic, so he did not do it to us for religious reasons. I happen to like my cut cock. It feels great, works great, looks great to me, and I don’t miss what I didn’t know I had when I popped out of the shoot. As far as I’m concerned it’s the difference between an “inny” and an “outy” belly button. (and I like the look of an “inny” better. Just my preference)

Well, I wish I was not circumcised from hearing all the pleasurable benefits I am missing out on.

AJ,

My father was intact as well. He had me circumcised because a doctor convinced him and my mom that it was best. This is why I question medical “professionals.” Why would a doctor recommend something that is not needed? It does not fit with the rest of their stated professionalism? It does fit with their bank accounts.

I don’t blame my parents. I believe they thought they were doing what was best for me at the time. I do hold it against the United States medical system for pushing unneeded elective surgery on children for profit.

Take care and happy gains,

Fair enough 4.

To each their own. But, I’m not sure it has as much to do with additional payment, as it does the medical theory at the time. Maybe?

It’s done due to religion and old habits dying hard.

I wish the doctor who snipped me had to go in 50/50 with my parents to pay for the removal of the webbing.

Not in every case. Our boys were circumcised because my wife and I CHOSE to circumcise them. It had zero to do with religion or old habits. We both agree, that a cut penis looks better and is easier maintenance. Hell, are we going to start getting irritated at women who shave their pussy’s. A big ol’ bushel of hair is how nature intended it, so if they shave it, shame on them? I don’t think so. I happen to like what a shaved vagina looks and feels like.

In fact I’m gonna start a thread on this.
