The other thing that I have seen very helpful to some people is L-glutamine. I recommend about 4 grams(4000 mg)daily until the sore clears.

Maintainence dose could be like 500mg a day unless you are under a lot of stress, sick, working out heavy, not much sleep etc.

I’ve seen it work miracles in a couple people, but haven’t had the chance to try it on more than two people. I am the only one I know that has used this for herpes.

This is the best and cheapest source I know of;

Hmmm, interesting sparkyx, thanks.

I googled L-glutamine though and found nothing about it’s relation to herpes outbreaks… I’ll search more though.

HEY GUYS! I discovered this product… I’d like you brotherly thundery people to give it the skim-over and the approval rating because I know how tough you guys can be. Please just read through it and let me know what you guys think about possibly purchasing this. Don’t hesitate to tell me it’s all bullshit. The money is not an issue and if you read into it, it comes out to around 1 dollar per use per outbreak. I like how it "claims" that it only requires one use per outbreak and that’s it. I also like how it says it makes outbreaks much less frequent and less intense each time and can actually stop outbreaks. Also it has a 6 month trial money back guarantee.

My doctor told me gensing would not lower my blood sugar, but it did, He also said gymmena was a joke, but it too lowers blood sugar.

What I’m saying is try it see if it works. It has a $ guarantee.

You could try the liquid olive leaf extract and apply directly to the sore see if that works, You can find it under homeopathic remedies.

You WON’T! As far as I know, I am the only one mentioning it. Give it a try and then we’ll have a large information base.

Just buy a small bottle of it, but really I found the effective dose (at first) is about 4 grams at least, better to do twice that for the first couple days. ALSO as with any amino acid, best to take it on a TOTALLY empty stomach.

Hmmm… This is L-glutamine you say? I’m a bit hesitant to be the guinea pig experiment for an amino acid supplement that doesn’t advertise any sort of herpes help… Maybe get me more info and I’ll try I guess? Lysine seems to be the number 1 supplement to prevent outbreaks and I take those daily.. I don’t want to have to take 2 different pills in the morning and night. This feels like foreshadowing of being an old fogey!

I’m quite convinced that Choraphor is a good product! Plus it has the money back guarantee I might as well try it… The testimonials just seem so promising and I googled more reviews that also were good.

I hear l-lysine is good for virusis, maybe it might be good for herpes.

L-lysine IS recommended for herpes. No where near as effective as L-glutamine…in my experience.

There is no danger taking L-glutamine…just to your wallet. :)

L-glutamine is currently used by athletes and bodybuilders for recovery. It was first experimented on in hospitals with old folks who were having trouble recovering, it significantly accelerated their recovery. It is also the primary amino acid that supplies the immune system ( if I recall).

Great booster for the immune system, and I believe the mechanism behind herpes breakouts is depleted l-glutamine from stress…leads to decreased immunity, which leads to the herpes virus making its break out from the nervous system into the body proper.

Most athletes that get colds easily have been found depleted in L-glutamine, and supplimentation leads to great reduction in the number of colds, enchanced recovery and muscle mass.

This is as of yet an unrecognized benefit of L-glutamine, so if you decide to try it (empty stomach!!!) let us know the results.

I found that if I bit my lip or cheek or nicked my gums…soon a cold sore would form and erode for a few days…very painful. With l-glutamine…it just heals with no cold sore or erosion.

A lady I knew had started getting monthly outbreaks of genital herpes…progressively getting more frequent and painful. Once the lesions appeared, they would go though a normal progression that would take at least a week to heal.

Upon administration of the l-glutamine (4 grams, empty stomach) the lesions would dry up overnite and go away. With one or two doses, they wouldn’t return for a couple months…until stress would deplete her glutamine enough that it would allow them to return. Each time the glutamine would have the same effect. Finally I convinced the lady to take it for a week or so, and the herpes didn’t return for about a year.

If she would take it daily ( apx 500 mg) I’m convinced she would never see a recurrence. Hell, she could probably get away with 500 mg once a week. I don’t know if others can get away with such small amounts, thats why I recommmend 4 grams daily for at least a week, twice that wouldn’t be a bad idea either (4 grams X day for a week).

These are just two cases…but significant results. More cases will quickly prove or disprove this theory.

So sparkyx, you’re saying that one should take the 4 grams daily for “at least a week” when one has an outbreak? And how much daily in generel to prevent oubreaks? Or are you saying if I take 4 grams daily for at least a week I can stop and then be cold sore free for a year??

That’s crazy that l-glutamine can be so affective when people talk so much about how great l-lysine is for it, although I’ve gotten coldsores when taking l-lysine.

I just read some contradictory claims, saying that L-glutamine is used for people with burns, cancer or similar really stressful things going on - also marathon runners got fewer infections than those that had a placebo, but that for "normal" people, it made no difference.

Anyway, I found a swedish source where they said "500 grams, or 100 doses". Now I don’t know if this comes in powder or pill form, but if a daily dose is 5 grams, then that is 5000 mg - about what you’d recommend for outbreaks?

Yes, 4000 mg is what I’ve used, it might be overkill, but its good for you so why not?

If you have enough for your immune system to be functioning normally, more won’t improve your health. But if stress, working out, poor diet etc has depleted you of it, then adding it WILL make a huge difference.

How much will you need to prevent occurrences? Who knows? Try it first and see if it works for you, THEN if it does, experiment and see what doses you need to keep it away.

Like I said, I know of no one else who has recommended this, but new discoveries have to start SOMEWHERE…right?

I buy the powder from the site I listed, best quality…lowest prices!

Thanks, it’s actually not for me. But since I have no wiki entry to refer to, I don’t really know how to suggest it. :)
