Question on other forum: involuntary erections?

I’m a member of a Swedish forum for father’s rights, and there is a guy there who is pretty distraught.

He put his girls to bed (4 & 6 years old) and lied next to them for a while, got up and noticed he had an erection. His wife noticed too, as he came into the hallway, she told her sister, her sister called the social department and suddenly she is filing for divorce and the authorities have filed charges of suspected child molestation. He was called to a meeting with social workers, who told him that it was not normal to get an erection while putting children to bed - watching porn, fine. He claims it was an involuntary erection, the kind we guys sometimes get (more frequently in younger years, or riding trains/cars).

Now his wife is planning to move to a different city, is convinced he molested his girls and he’s scared to death he’ll be pushed out of their lives.

I checked wiki and googled but only got the regular teenager stuff. This guy is 30 years old. Anybody know of any research on the autonomous reactions on erections? Anything truthful to support his claim?

Mgus,check Flashback´s alternative section and you will find people getting involuntary erections from just riding the bus/train etc.
I think Ive read about a guy who got erections just by walking in the forest :D

Think about letting the “forest guy” take his family out for an picnic….You get the point ;)

Yeah, I’m well aware of the phenomena - there’s even a medical term for “train erection” or something like that. That doesn’t convince a middleaged female social worker who has made her mind up ahead of time though.

Do the kids have any say? Perhaps a child psychologist should get involved and give her opinion on whether the kids have any sign of molestation. Unfortunately, there’s no guaranteeing that she doesn’t have her mind made up ahead of time as well.

My first thought is that he must not have had that great of a relationship with his wife if she would suspect him of something like that.

That’s a really #@!*ed up scenario there. Probably no happy ending. I really feel for the guy … if he’s innocent.

Imbalance of dopamine can cause involuntary erections and priapism. Some medicines also; for example:

“Abstract Background & objective: Priapism is a rare but serious adverse effect of psychotrpic drugs where antipsychotic agents were implicated in 15% to 26% of priapism associated with medications. Among atypical antipsychotic, clozapine, risperidone and olanzapin have been reported to be associated with the condition.”

I am closer to 50 than to 40 and still get spontaneous wood.

The guy doesn’t describe having priapism, just getting spontaneous wood.

Which is the issue here: any scientific works showing that spontaneous wood can be non-sexual during waking hours?

The degree to which I get spontaneous wood varies a great deal. Sometimes I will go for months with my penis behaving like you would expect for a fellow my age as far as involuntary erections goes. Other times it will be as bad as when I was 18. Mostly I can will it back to soft within a few minutes if I set my mind to it. For the last few months even that has been problematic.

Awkward? check. Annoying? check. Embarrassing? check. Sexual? hardly.

Not really getting anywhere with it, though. 50% of the population are aware of the problem, but I can’t seem to find anything to “prove” it.

That is terrible :( I get spontaneous erections all the time — and they sometimes persist for a half-hour or more, no matter how much I want them to go away.

Couldn’t this guy get any reputable urologist to testify that an erection means absolutely nothing about his guilt or innocence?

Yeah, well the trick is to find one, isn’t it?
