Opting for circumcision

I was cut as an infant, and damn glad I was.

I never liked the “anteater” look of the uncut penis.

My wife and every-sinlge one of my ex-girlfriends like the cut better than un-cut.

Thats my exact reason. Society driven standards or not, we live in the US, and thats just the way it is.

All information here is from my cow Bessy. The opinions and posts are hers and not mine. I just do the typing for her because we all know cows cant type. Fieldmouse :iws:

I hate the fact that I’m cut.

My feeling is that circumcision is plain old mutilation. Involuntary mutilation in tandem with tribal circumcision to deprive women of pleasure and self worth. I am completely against any modification at infancy. Later in life is another story as are tattoos and piercing.

With that aside American men are the minority. Only 1/6th of the world’s men are circumcised.

HAHA you asked, “Does anyone actually know the “origin” of circumcision. I’d like to know when, why, and how??”

I kind of have a loose grip on the history. From what I recall the practice is Egyptian. It came through from ancient Egyptian religious observances probably pre-dynastic. Mummies are all circumcised. In certain areas of Africa it is still performed, most likely due to Egyptian influences made about 3500 yrs ago. Along trade routes the practice made its way to the Middle East. The silk road which connected Europe and Asia became the go between and it may have been carried all the way to Asia.

Basically the myth is that Osiris (I think it was him) was walking along the Nile and a papyrus reed cut his foreskin off. He was very unhappy about the whole thing, but later found that his concubines really liked it. They all thought it was more attractive. As the Egyptians were obsessed with social power, beauty and just looking good, circumcision made its way into popular culture for primarily aesthetic reasons. It has, however, a darker origin.

The reality is that earlier before it was widely accepted, circumcision was a means of defilement. It was a way for slaves to be marked as such. Upon capture they would be “cut”. This would present their manhood in a lesser light and keep them inferior in a visible, but personal way. It is most likely that this became a common practice as slave families passed circumcision to their children for thousands of years. It was later solidified into religion and at some point it became popular across the board, regardless of class or belief. It was at that point most likely the earlier myth was created to cover up the more sordid reality.

Obviously, being slaves in Egypt meant you were cut as a means to mark you. The Jews are not an exception. They picked up this tradition while in bondage. Upon Exodus they took this custom with them and continued to practice it. Later Christianity sprang up as an off shoot of Judaism a few hundred years before Jesus came along. As a derivative of Judaism it had a lot of the same traditions, including circumcision . As the Christian movement began to grow into a huge powerhouse around 300A.D. the Empire was breaking up over religious conflict and internal military battles. Constantine decided to make Catholicism the official religion of Rome. In doing so he basically wrote the New Testament, formed the Vatican, appointed a pope and solidified the religion into one. Until then none of it had been written, it was mostly oral and practiced differently in different places. He gave it an identity, twisted a little history by making Jesus the son of God to set the Jews apart and removed foreskin chopping as a religious practice. He made Christianity into a distinctly different religion. It became a religion that suited the needs of the Empire by bringing together a disparate majority into a powerful political force. As it happened circumcision became illegal and Rome was saved, if not only temporarily.

The basis behind this move was to identify Jews from the newly backed Christian movement. Jews were considered insurgents and were still being thrown to the lions at that time. As you cannot lie about a permanent mark on your man-parts, being uncut was a saving grace. To be cut meant you were Jewish. Although mostly Christian, Americans are the exception to this rule. This is the reason most Europeans still are uncut, a 2000 year old Roman law.

Otherwise, circumcision appears to have developed independently in many cultures for different reasons. For example, many American
Indians were uncut when Columbus arrived. Asian mummies can also be found up to 15,000 yo that are circumcised; far before Egypt was even a dessert, never mind a civilization.

Neat stuff.

faculae,

Thanks for the historical perspective. In the US, circumcision was re-introduced during the Victorian era, around 1900, as an attempt to reduce the debauchery of the time. The theory promoted by people like Harvey Kellogg, was that infant circumcision would prevent masturbation which was thought to lead to all of the other maladys of the time. It continued to grow until the ’60s and ’70s when something like 90% of males born in the US were circumcised, many without the consent of the parents. Since that time the percentage has been decreasing, and the “other benefits” of circumcision have been touted as an attempt to keep it going. Currently about 60% of infant males are circumcised. This number is several years old and could be higher than the actual current rate.

Is there anyone here who has restored their foreskin and can attest that it is more sensitive? I read some shit on the web and lo and behold it was all conflicting.

I’m cut… or so I thought, but I’ve only ever needed lube for anal sex… so does that mean I’m not cut? maybe I was just born with a tiny foreskin so it looks circumcised but in fact it’s not?

Does it seem to anybody else the uncut people are more adamant about their superiority then us cut people?

I have an observation that may be complete crap- when I have a condom on my penis looks more streamlined- not unlike an uncut penis and women generally find sex with a condom less pleasurable, but when I have used condoms with the “roomier head” that allows the head to stay full size the response has been much better, same as when I use no condom at all (only in a relationship and when we have both been tested)

faculae- I disagree that the “myth” was developed to cover the sordid reality. the Jews started circumcision with Abraham as a sign of his covenant with God. Way before they were ever in Egypt.

ps- Turtlenecks went out of style a long time ago…

stubby,
There’s no comparison between a short foreskin and being cut. You have everything intact. Compare the sensation of the skin at the base of your penis to that near beneath the glans to get some idea of what some cut guys feel.

I can attest to having increased pleasure after restoring, and I’m nowhere near complete.

Stubbs,

You are correct. This is the belief that is held by the Judaic contingent. It does not however, explain why American Indians were cut when Columbus showed up, or why Asians or even Middle Easterners have been practicing as far back as history can take us. Your point of view is valid none the less. As valid as the Jews adopting the tradition as their own. But believing they “invented” it is akin to: Who does Jerusalem belong to? The Christians, the Jews or the Palestinians?

Circumcision is far older than even the Jews. We can go to the Smithsonian anytime and I can prove it to you by looking at cave men found in ice. They are cut sometimes. The Jews picked this up somewhere along the way. That is not a question of doubt.

For the rest of you, here is an excellent resource that might finally put this issue to bed. Let’s ask the professionals.

MDC- I was being sarcastic and trying to point out how absurd some of the pro uncut arguments are (especially about lube). As my father is uncut and I am cut I know this for fact. I love my cut penis…. sometimes three or four times a day. I know that the sensation of the skin at the base of my penis is nothing compared to the sensation of the skin above my circumcision scar and honestly if I had any more sensation above my circumcision scar (which is supposedly what being uncut is like) I would achieve orgasm immediately after insertion.

faculae- I don’t doubt that it was happening elsewhere, just stating that the jews were doing it before they were enslaved in egypt.

I was cut as an adult, ive been on both side of thr fence, and I can tell this loss of sensation is bologna (bolney) . What are these guys getting callouses on their glans? Are they maybe using a belt sander on their glans? I dont know. :)
