Thanks for your reply. Your perspective helps clarify for me reasons it may be good for some to give it up, though it also introduces some ideas that I don’t quite see the justification for. I’ve never been one to view porn for hours on end. After I climax I don’t really feel much of a desire to continue looking at porn. I see the beautiful female body(ies) on the screen, and I’m still able to appreciate that they’re beautiful, but don’t really feel compelled to do anything about that, and I go do something else. Perhaps this is because I’ve usually not been one to masturbate for very long. Even back when I used to be able to have sex for hours without climax, going solo was always quick. I’ve only edged an hour or so maybe a few times, and had done so more as a conditioning thing than anything else.

That site is the first I’ve heard of straight guys coming to need gay porn, because they are so used to hetero-porn. I’m skeptical of the idea of becoming aroused by something you don’t find arousing, but more importantly, if it’s true that you can come to want porn of a type of human you aren’t physically attracted to in real life, why is that bad? If someone felt their sexual needs were better met by porn, but for social reasons wanted a girl, they could then seek to get a girl for those reasons. In either case, they could choose to go and get something they want, without denying themselves something similar that they’ve been enjoying. I’ve heard stories of people who use porn for many hours every day, and fail to meet obligations, and get in trouble. These stories to me seem like reasons for that individual to treat porn like it’s a problem, but a lot of the justifications do not.

Well I gotta get a handle on my masturbating habits. Deleted the regular porn bookmarks I use to frequent.

I’m not going to stop masturbating altogether, because I believe it is a healthy habit, but I definitely have some problems and really need to start practicing some self control in this area. Also if you don’t use it, you lose it.

My goals are masturbation 2 times a week maximum. Spread out every 3 days. Another thing I want to practice doing is just laying in my bed using my fleshlight so as to not be overly gripping my penis too hard, also it simulates a real vagina, and I want to try and rely on just using my mind more to get off instead of an image of a porno chick. I use to be pretty good about this when I was younger laying in my bed at night thinking about girls I liked, had some pretty powerful orgasms that way.

I know my erection quality has suffered some because of my way too frequent masturbation. So I want to really start targeting this as well.

Also should I enter a relationship I won’t abstain from sex in anyway.

I think for me my main problems with masturbating are:
-currently not seeing anyone (when I do I tend to focus on ‘saving my loads’ knowing it will be that much better w/ her later)
-frequency (way too much here, 3-4 times per day, with no off days in-between is not unusual currently)
-spend too much time on my computer (so easy access to internet porn)

I’m also going to try and focus more on my hobbies and work to keep me busy, too busy to want jerk it.

Soon I’ll be starting Softball. I’ve started hitting the weights hard again as I have a Mud Run coming up in May. And I will be out doors a lot more now that Spring is here, so a lot more activities to do outside.

Screw masturbation. If it isn’t the real thing it isn’t worth it. My suggestion is to PE rather than masturbate. I have erections like a 13 year old going through puberty now. Do you just refrain from masturbation? Any porn or edging? I am assuming you mean no ejaculation. Also, I know we’re all different, but how long before you really started to feel the positive effects (in particular, increased horniness) since you stopped what you stopped? I feel like a porn detox would really do me well. I don’t masturbate that often (once every 2 weeks or so, if that), and I’m still in my early 20’s, but I feel I am not as horny as I should be. Though, I used to a lot more often a while back; I’ve cut down a lot. I want to be able to get hard by just looking at pictures, but, right now, it usually requires physical touch.

This is something I am very interested in trying out. I find also that the less porn I watch the more horny I am and also I am more easily aroused. I think this could be great for EQ and maybe lowered refractory period during sex, but to those who have accomplished a complete porn detox does it affect overall stamina in bed?

Pretty much. Can’t say I’m completely off it, however I haven’t ejaculated unless it’s the real thing. I think a lot of the problems guys are having especially with premature ejaculation and weak erections are due to bad masturbation habits and of course using something virtual to get an erection. Also poor diet and not exercising enough. When it comes down to the real thing, we require more of the stimulation due to the massive amounts of hardcore porn that’s available out there.

No porn whatsoever, however I do edge. It helps with the “units” stamina as well as relaxation techniques and controlled breathing. Thoughts? Yeah. When I’ve detoxed for a while I find porn incredibly hot for an incredibly short time. Then I wonder…. why? And realise again why I quit it in the first place.

One of the reasons we detox is because the reward centers in our brain have been re-wired to respond only to porn. This connection is what drives our behavior and is self-reinforcing. When we “reboot,” this connection is severed and porn becomes just what it is instead of this trigger for dopamine. Like Firegoat said, after a short amount of time, you realize that what you’re watching is not, in reality, all that satisfying. The point of the detox is not to make porn arousing again. The point is to make sexual interaction with women or men your primary objective and to make it a satisfying experience free from the influence of the crap in porn.

Thanks for the response. I realise what you are saying that we are trying to break the connection of what drives our behaviour (porn versus “real”), as many people become dependent on porn to be aroused. However, I feel that a detox would be like going back to how I was before porn (or porn addiction/dependence). Admittedly, porn doesn’t turn me on as much as it used to, and I don’t feel as horny as I was in my mid-teens. I’m not sure about others, but the original reason I looked up naked pictures of women in the first place was because I was curious and women - in real life - made me feel.. Positively “funny”. I liked that feeling, so I grew curious about girls, which leads to finding out ways to view girls.. With less clothes. So, I’m led to looking up porn, etc.

I’m not trying to say that the point of detox is to make porn arousing again. Porn was arousing to me from the start, so I just feel like that would be the state I would detox to with regards to porn. The benefits of detox would be that I would be hornier/etc to the “real” things that should be arousing to me, but these benefits should not be viewed as a “bonus”, but rather just going back to how humans naturally are.

If I haven’t been around or seen a female for a long time (porn or in real life), I would my imagine that I would feel pretty horny if I finally saw one, whether she is on a screen or in front of me, right?

I’m just trying to say that since I was originally aroused to porn (well, not porn itself, but rather the visual of a hot girl), why would it be bad to be aroused by porn, if you are not dependent upon it? I’m aware that people say that they feel better after so many days/weeks without porn (hornier, livelier, seemingly more attractive, etc). I don’t want porn to be my main source of arousal, but I do not think it wrong to be turned on by porn (biologically or otherwise). In fact, I think it should be natural to be turned on by it for the reasons above. I hope I stated this clearly, and I apologise if I sounded sharply defensive. Thanks for the responses. :)

Just yesterday I have a fall in my detox journey, I was arrived at 30 days.
The curious thing is that the night before I had a wet dream, but it wasn’t about me, it was about me wacthing a hot scene. So basically I dreamed porn.

And the next day I fall. So today I start a new period of abstinence.

I experienced, long time ago, after a quick abstinence period, the UM1991 feeling: porn was boring. But yesterday, after a month, it was hot. I think it depends on your “conditions”: someday it will seems very exciting and someday it will seems boring.

The point is that - if you are addicted to it - watching porn is wasting time and (for a lot of reasons) life. So, new rewiring. Hope to get to the 3 months.
