I am pretty sure that I would not be able to get it up without any porn fantasies going on in my head. This would be solely relying on physical stimulation which I have found to give me the worst EQ generally.

Still going strong. I have had some thoughts that I wanted to post up here which may be beneficial to others who are thinking about cutting back.

First off, I think most people who have started their detox can agree that the first 5 days or so are boooorrring. This is probably more true if you’re used to hours and hours of porn per day, like I was. It was hard to pull myself through the tedium, and that was when the craving to watch porn was the worst. This did go away though, and after 5 days I felt much better in general. If I could deal with intense stimulation from porn for hours and hours, I could deal with intense stimulation during sex for hours as well. I was concerned that cutting back on the porn completely would mean that I would lose my stamina, and blow my load in seconds. This has turned out to be wrong on both counts. First off, the porn didn’t train me very well for sex, because instead of ultimately making sex better (by making me last longer) it just made it more worse (harder to get and keep an erection). What I <b>may</b> have gained in stamina was totally outweighed by what I lost in EQ. Furthermore, I have been with a woman several times since beginning my detox, and it has been outstanding. I have not lost any stamina as far as I can tell, but (on the positive side) I get an erection very easily and can keep it up while changing positions, which used to be difficult. I would say that it would stay hard for over a minute if I needed it to, even without any stimulation. This has been great for my partner, since she gets turned on by how hard I am in the beginning as well as not having to worry about switching positions so quickly like we used to.

It’s great that you’ve seen results already from just 5 days of detox, so just focus on that for motivation to keep going!

You’re on a great journey freeaccess. Just stay focused and live in line with your new set of values. You’re right- if you relapse, don’t beat yourself up too much. Use the guilt and disappointment as a learning experience and fuel for the next go-around. My last relapse has definitely helped me this time as I’ve identified some triggers, behaviors and feelings that worked against me last time. Day 39.

After being off of it for as long as I have, I have been able to easily get it up without any fantasies at all really. I also completely stopped masturbation, so that might contribute to this ability. If this is something you’re after, then I would suggest holding off on masturbating until you find it easy to get it up without thinking of porn fantasies again. If it’s not something you’re looking to gain, then don’t worry about it - to each his own.

I think there are a number of levels which you can go through with relation to the detox, it all depends on how it’s affecting you and what you want to gain from stopping. I was really pleasantly surprised when I was able to get hard during a PE session just from physical stimulation. I’m after spontaneous erections and morning wood, it’s been a long time since I had that. I also never plan to watch porn again, because my whole focus and effort is directed toward making myself into a better lover (bleh, that sounded a little wimpy), and I’ve found that porn doesn’t offer any help like I thought it would. Other people may porn detox, and then continue to watch porn occasionally in the future, and as long as you can handle that without regressing then that is cool too.

I think it’s similar to a lot of other addictions. Most people can have a drink or two every once in a while and be fine. Others can go at it more heavily and still be OK, and I think most guys who use porn fall into these metaphorical categories. Some people, and I definitely include myself in this group, end up becoming alcoholics. Again, leveraging the metaphor, some alcoholics can begin to drink responsibly after they’ve completely healed, and others can’t. For me, it’s not so much that I can’t (although that may be true), but rather that I just don’t see the point anymore. I used to think I was increasing my stamina, and now that I know that this is not the case, I’m pretty much over it.

Like every other form of addiction, an addict can come up with lots of reasons why their addiction is just fine. Even useful to them. Then when no longer an addict, they realise that all those ‘reasons’ were just excuses. And that they are far better off without their addiction.

Amazing revelation here. Just be careful- CHEMICALLY, your body WILL begin to pull you back, REGARDLESS of perceived willpower and realizations. Stay on your toes, don’t let your guard down…this stuff will sneak up on you. As Firegoat said, this applies for all addictions.

Just started again, another new measurement coming soon; I'm pretty close to that June '11 though.

Yeah, my goals are mostly to regain the “speed” in obtaining an erection. With porn I got to the point where I’d be going through DOZENS of pages trying to find a video that struck me as interesting. Then even with the video I usually spent like 5 minutes trying to get it hard along with stimulation. I’d also like to return to more morning wood. However, for the morning wood I am thinking that it is attributed more to my being overweight. I’m planning on going on a diet pretty soon, but I gotta find one that will work for me.

Since stopping, I have seen some improvements. Other than the horniness, I have found that I can get erect a little bit quicker now with my imagination and stimulation. I’ve also noticed an increase in the hardness of my erections. The last thing is that I can retain that hardness longer now too. With porn it was like within 5 seconds of not touching myself I’d be losing my erection fairly quick.

Anyways, I believe I am on day 7 now.

Thanks, I think for the most part I am past the temptation of wanting to look at porn…I think lol. Yeah, weight loss is never a bad thing. However, it could be due to other things too like having hypertension (which I think could be improved a lot if I lost the weight) and due to the fact that I take amphetamine salts (adderall) for my ADHD. One of the side effects of it is “Difficulty in getting erections.”

I dunno if I wanna bring it up with my doctor though. It seems a bit embarrassing to me (even though he is a professional). I already went through like 2 other meds for ADHD and they didn’t work or were causing adverse reactions. I don’t really have many options left after what I’m taking now. During the summer I usually stop taking the meds, so it’ll be an interesting test to see what happens there.
