initial hiv symptoms

How long should initial hiv symptoms last? Mine have been going on for over 2 weeks now since contact, that is a mild fever and sore throat. My doc said wait for 2 months to get antibody test. As of yesterday iv noticed one swollen node under my tongue area but iv had that before. Pls let me hear your thoughts. Thanks

I am puzzled are you saying that you have been confirmed as being HIV positive? Or are you saying you believe your HIV positive.

I need this clarifying as I am studying for my Diploma in Complete Mind Therapy and I am learning how the human mind can manifest symptoms and eventually actually make the body ill.

ronnie - this is serious stuff…absolutely and 100% go talk to a doctor (again) about this…This forum is definitely not the right place to get advice on this. A doctor definitely IS the right place.

Have you had a blood test? Detection of viral genetic material (PCR) can be done very soon after infection. Antibody tests take longer. So like Aaron said, we’ll need clarification on whether this is a suspected transmission, or something that was confirmed by PCR.

Did your doc put you on anti-retrovirals? In Australia, as in the US, that should be standard protocol immediately after suspected HIV exposure. Was this a sexual encounter with an HIV-positive individual, or was it some other suspected exposure like a needle prick? If it was sexual, the chances of transmission are very low, but you should still be safe and get the anti-retrovirals. Either way, if the exposure was 2 weeks ago, there was an actual transmission of infectious virus, and you haven’t gotten treatment, then the drugs won’t give a cure. The disease would still be treatable, but you’d have to get treatment with them for the rest of your life.

So to summarize:
-Don’t listen to me or anyone else on here about symptoms or what you should do. Do immediately get back in touch with a doctor - the sooner the better.
-Do give us more details about your situation if you’d like to talk about it.

When you suspect to have been infected with hiv by someone if you treat it right away it is possible to erradicate the virus completely?.

It’s not guaranteed, and the situation has not happened often enough in real life to actually test it, but getting on anti-retroviral drugs within 12 or so hours of suspected exposure can prevent the need for long-term treatment. For example, scientists working in the lab with infectious HIV are taught to immediately seek this treatment in the event of suspected exposure. It’s rare that this happens, but there is one report of someone becoming infected long-term after such an exposure, and all other suspected exposures have not led to development of infection (possibly because of the treatment, possibly because HIV is just not that transmissable).

The problem is that most real-life sexual exposures are in people that are not being safe and/or aren’t aware that they are being exposed, so they therefore don’t seek treatment the same day as exposure.

Also, new research shows that prophylactic use of the drugs (i.e. you haven’t been exposed, but use them suspecting that you will be exposed) significantly reduces the risk of transmission. The problem is that the drugs are very expensive and very unpleasant to be on.

Moral of the story: be safe, wear a condom, don’t fuck hookers, and support the active research looking for an HIV vaccine.

I saw a doctor he said to wait for four weeks to do an antibody test. Im really not sure whether I actually have it or not. I got alarmed after reading up about the initial symptoms

First thing I would not do, is go to a doctor. They’ll give you AZT, which will actually render your immune system useless. But that’s just me and my opinion on the newest research I’ve done myself. I don’t trust doctors, big pharma and the medical establishment.

I’ve had your symptoms for months. Then stumbled upon this.

Lomatium Dissectum. Got rid of whatever I had. :)

Since you are my property, the contents of your mind are also my property, and you will give them to me when I ask.

The first thing I would do is see another doctor to see if he agrees with the one that wants you to wait four weeks.

And don’t listen to medical advice you get on a penis exercise site. Even Thunders.

We are (usually) not doctors and should not be pretending to give advice on serious health matters.

Thanks for all the help. FYI I did get a post exposure profylactic shot less than 24hrs after but thats never 100 percent.

HIV infection normally attacks (but not always) multiple lymph nodes, causing significant and painful swelling in the groin, under armpits and throat. Symptoms rarely present under two weeks but often include influenza type symptoms, with the addition of mouth sores and frequently a rash on the back and sides of your torso.

I wouldn’t put all my eggs in this basket but: coconut oil is currently being researched as a possible cure (yes you heard me) for HIV following in vitro tests which demonstrated the ability of lauric acid to kill HIV cells. In vivo lauric acid has been proven to enter the bloodstream and hence the quiet excitement amongst some medical institutes.

Soph - that coconut oil stuff sounds made up…

I read a study in the past directly discussing the effects of lauric acid/coconut monoglycerides; can’t find it at the moment but the pdf below is relevant enough.

monoglycerides have the same functionality regardless of the source.
