Hair Loss

I am 23, and I know that in a few years I am going to start losing alot of hair. It runs in the family. My Dad, my uncles, etc.

I can already tell a little difference in my hair line, so I know I am in the same gene pool.

But anyways, worse comes to worse, I’ll just shave my head.

However, I want to know if there are other like me here in a similar situation. Has anyone here also had hair loss. What did you do? Did you go to a dermatologist? What sort of treatment did you do and if so, did it work?

What about that laser thing - it’s expensive but does it work?

I am just curious to know what sort of options I will have in the future.

Thanks.

Definitely getting bigger.

The Lurker,

Haven’t looked at Twat’s links, but if you haven’t lost it yet, start up on a treatment regimen and you likely won’t go bald. Lots of guys do a rogaine/propecia combo, but there are other drugs out there as well, which twat likely linked.

Those methods are far more effective at preventing hair loss than regrowing significant amounts of lost hair.

Rogain is a pain in the ass since you have to “apply” it and do so twice a day. The way to go is Propecia and the sooner the better. Read the links provided by Twatteaser.

I know a ton about hairloss. I am new to the PE thing though. If you want to go the medical route. I would use minoxidil 5% from https://www.minoxidil.com (less greasy) and get Avodart and take it once a day. Avodart is similar to propecia but stronger, it’s actually for prostate enlargement but additionally works to prevent and help hair loss. If you want to use just one, use Avodart. But minoxidil and Avodart together works great. Minox is a pain but it does work. You have to do this for life however if you want to maintain what you gain. If you want a hair transplant. I would research the technique called FUE, follicular unit extraction. It seems the leading place for this is a company called DHI based in Greece. Go to hairlosshelp.com for more information. There is also strip hair transplantation, the only doctor I would recommend for this is Dr. Hasson based in VAncouver. BUT FUE is superior but more expensive. Just like PE hair loss has tons of gimmicks and products that don’t work. Stay away from the laser crap.

Do these products like Rogain and propecia cause ED ?

Go to a good dermatologist!

There are a lots of products

minoxidil but not only.

Progesterone works good in some cases.

Every people is different.

At last you can shave and it’s cool.

But first, dont lose your money & time and

go to a professional. My opinion.

You should check out Hair Loss Information, Treatments & Support | Get Answers Now, or Get Answers About Hair Loss Information, Treatments & Support

they have very active forums. What a lot of guys on those boards do is called the "big 3" which consists of:
-Propecia (1mg Finasteride daily)
-Rogaine 5% Minoxidil 2x per day
-Nizoral 2% Shampoo 3-4 times per week

Propecia and Rogaine are the only two FDA approved medications for hair loss. They are clinically proven. Essentialy about 88% of people who used Propecia had improved hair count and thickness. As for Rogaine, there is a 1988 or 89 study that shows that 2% minoxidil is effective in about 55% of people, and and more recent study shows that 5% minoxidil over the 2% is about 30-40% more effective.

Propecia works by decreasing the overall amount of DHT in the system which is pretty much the main culprit of hair loss. Lowered DHT, could potentially result in complete cessation of hairloss. Rogaine works differently, and does not stop hair loss, it basically alows you to regrow hair— although it only works for about 1/2 the people out there. As for Nizoral there are early studies showing that it appears to be pretty effective for hair loss. What Nizoral does is interupt DHT directly on the hair follicle, which in combination with Propecia, will allow for a very complete blockage of DHT.

Sorry for the late reply to this thread. I had been away.

But how do some of these products affect hair on the rest of your body. For example, would taking Propecia result in me having more hair on my arms, legs and body? Because I don’t really want that.

Definitely getting bigger.

I am in my early 40’s and have had hair thinning problems in the typical male pattern baldness areas. I didn’t think it looked noticable until one day my wife said I need to re-comb the back top of my head. I looked in the mirror and almost shit myself. I had hair but you could easily see through to the scalp, very easily. So I looked into both minoxidal and propecia. The minoxidal seemed like a pain because of the twice a day application so being lazy I looked into propecia. I have been taking the propecia for 4 months now and my hair loss has stopped and I am starting to get thicker hair follicles. I dont know if I had new growth but I am really happy at where I am at. I have had no ED problems while taking this. And I know what ED problems are, I had plenty of ED prior to starting PE. I also try to buy the generic finesteride and am in the process of having my doctor prescribe Proscar and split the tablets but my doctor is a bit of a purist and doesnt look at cost as a legitimate reason to cut up a pill and save money. I have bought the drug off the internet but my source has been closed down. Anyway try the Propecia.

You all are still missing the point... The story was great and all but should have ass (and) some anal in it.- RWG

Finasteride doesn’t cause hair to grow. It stops 5-alpha reductase from converting testosterone to DHT. It’s the DHT in the hair follicles of the scalp that causes them to stop producing hair. By stopping the conversion, it stops the hair from falling out.

However, and very interesting IMO, I used to have back hair before I started on Propecia. It was bad enough that I actually had it waxed once (never again!). Now that I’ve been on the drug for nearly four years, my back hair is almost completely gone. I have no idea why.

Hey Lurker;

Here’s how I resolved my hair loss issu:

I went to a Vintage store and purchased 1 sq. yd. of shag carpet from the 60’s or 70’s. Bought a large rubber band for a chin strap. Cut out just enough carpet to cover my head, attached the chin strap and VOILA!! Problem solved. People can hardly notice except fro the bright green color!!! LOL

All kidding aside; I can Joke like this because like you; I started losing my hair at a young age. I heard it also has something to do with a high testosterone level. Not sure if that’s true or not.

I tried not to let it bother me and finally gave up on hair and I shave my head every 2 days. I love it. It feels very clean and cool in the summer. Besides, bald is in

I asked my Dr about prescribing Finasteride for me earlier this year but she would not.

Is it safe for me to self medicate? Any unwanted side effects like Liver toxicity?

If I used Rogaine (along with Finasteride and Nizoral) for 1 year and it was sucessfull in causing new hair to grow, what would hapen when I stopped using Rogaine?

I understand that the normal hair loss process will start again and I will probably lose my newly regrown hair in three to four months.

But if I stay on the Finasteride and Nizoral after stopping Regaine will the hair that was grown by Regaine stay?
