Dating a girl with cold sores

Without reading all the replies etc… here is my opinion:

BE VERY CAREFUL DUDE!!! You are a young guy. The chances of you two being together a year from now are slim regardless of anything else. Don’t screw your whole life up over getting your dick wet or even less.

If it comes down to it I would ask her straight up what the deal is then ask for a std test with you giving one as well if needed. Explain your concerns when she goes off the wall with your questions.

Like I said, you are young, 98% chance this is not the woman you are going to spend the rest of your life with!!

Right, and there’s almost an equal chance that he’ll be exposed to HVS 1 at some point in his life if he hasn’t been already!

coolbill, when I was in my teens I lived in NYC. One day I was out and about and I started to get that tingle on my lip so I stopped into a health food store/herb shop on the Lower East Side and an old Chinese dude who worked there told be about Lysine. The brand he sold me was called Super Lysine + by Quantum Health. He said to take like 6 pills right away, and then 2 or 3 a couple of times a day for about a week. It worked like a charm, and I’ve been using the product ever since. They also sell a topical product that helps if you have an actual outbreak.

Are blackheads and pimples kind of on your lips considered herpes? I tend to get them and it looks like I have herpes but I’m pretty sure I don’t.

Typical looking pimples and black heads are not herpes lesions. HSV 1 cold sore lesions tend to be tender to painful, they may initially look like a small fluid filed blister (vesicle) that easily break. The surrounding skin gets reddish. The tenderness and redness recede as healing takes place over days to a week.

If it looks like a blister or a black head, that’s probably what it is.

Give the girl a break. I used to get cold sores when I was stressed in college. Then no cold sores for years. Then the stress of a bad job and several other life problems and no sleep and welcome back Mr. cold sore.

This in no way should be a deal breaker. Most people in this world have had a cold sore I can guarantee you that.

I repeat. Not a deal breaker.

Great info in this thread! Good posts all around.

Take 1000mg of Lysine every other day for the first two weeks then drop down to 500mg every other day for two more weeks. You can then take 1 1000mg dose per week or you can research what type of foods contain L-Arginine. L-Arginine counteracts the benefits of lysine to treat herpes. The herpes virus uses L-Arginine to reproduce and spread. Lysine prevents the virus from reproducing and surfacing. So your daily does of Lysine needs to be higher than Arginine. Perform a search on google for a food chart listing sources (with grams) of lysine and arginine.

Prescription Zovirax ointment is very good too. Makes the go away fast when you catch them early.

I’ve had good results from applying ice if you catch them really early on. I remember a friend of mine even used to take pills that supposedly made them go away faster, but I can’t recall the name.

Yeah I heard if you rub jalapeno’s in your urethra it will make your dick grow too!

I’ve also just learned that I’ve contracted the virus… (and I’m wondering if I have the genital version—tho it might just be jock itch and that’s what the doc seems to think—so I have to go with his verdict). And I’m actually quite concerned about passing it on to someone else. I’ve also read the articles and even purchased some quick healing medication on the net. In the beginning, the initial sores never really appeared; my lips just began tingling like crazy. I went to the doctor and got some pills and some facial ointment and that was that, however, these days, my lips will tingle every now and again which makes me think about this viral shedding. As a result I’m generally concerned with how women will react to my condition (as ubiquitous as cold sores/herpes may be) and I’m reluctant to intiate any kind of relationship now. I find myself “blurting” out I have herpes simply because I don’t need the stress of having a girlfriend not knowing.

All in my head as I also see other people whom I know are in relationships with cold sores walking around. I just wonder how they cope with the virus and how their partners/spouses deal with it. I’m definitely going through stage of adaption right now, trying to learn what the best ways are of controling/suppressing the virus (until there is a pill), and reading this thread is great therapy.

Thunder - And they laughed at Columbus and the Wright brothers too. The active ingredient of hot peppers, capsaicin, has beneficial effects on herpes viruses including HSV.
