Chickens and sexual health

Hi all,
I’ve been reading up on chickens recently, and have learnt some disturbing stuff about the effect the hormones they are fed has on humans. In particular the worrying man-breast development, and apparent increase in oestrogen levels.

I stay clear of it. But I wonder, will chicken have an effect on sexual health? Will it diminish testosterone levels? We already suffer enough these days from the presence of phyto-oestrogen’s EVERYWHERE.

Just a thought. Couldn’t find anything on the forum regarding this.

Moved your post over here Starch. :)

Pretty interesting and I’d be curious to here peoples thoughts on this.

I hate chickens though. That’s why I’m always choking them.

Gut Scramblin' goodness.

Personally I think that the current food is the reason that penis size is going down, gut size is going up and little girls are looking like women much younger then in the past. There was a study, I don’t know where I saw it but it said that rats fed a diet high in soy with its estrogen like compounds caused them to develop smaller genitals then the rats fed a normal diet.

Eat more possum. :D

I would suggest eating as natural a diet as possible. Unprocessed foods, organically raised fowl and beef, etc. A little tofu now and again isn’t going to cause your dick to shrink up either. It’s true there is a lot of tampering in the food chain these days, so the best we can do is to avoid those tampered foods as much as possible. Remember too that there are natural testosterone boosters out there too, and supplements to help you make up the difference.

This thing will less likely happen in the EU because it is prohibited to use gen manipulation and grow hormones here. You Yanks are saddled with that crap, enjoy it!

The advice I can give you is to eat only EU imported food :D , move to here or let the US prohibit gen manipulation and growth hormones themselves. If those aren’t an option for you, try to eat an as natural diet as possible like other people already suggested.

What you need to do is determine if, indeed, chickens are raised on hormonal feeds in your country.

Where I live, they are not. (Not the case with beef, though.)

It is true that very young chickens here are fed grain compounds which contain antibiotics to protect the chicks from infections. However, this is short term only, and by market time the chickens have no traces of antibiotics in their flesh.

There is a bird, prized by some groumet cooks and chefs, called a “capon.” This is a male chicken which is castrated early in its life in order that it will grow into a larger meat product, and more tender than a rooster would normally be. Because they require a longer period of time to reach market stage, they are more expensive. However, there is no need to raise them on hormonal feeds because the alterations in their own chemistries, through castration, provide for the additional body growth.

Cajun’s suggestion of possum is a good one. They are never exposed to hormonal feeds. Where he lives - a very decadent and rural southern place - possums are gathered in the form of “road kill.” I have a very fine possum recipe, if any of y’all should want it.

I am absolutely sure that isn’t the case, no hormones are allowed in EU countries, at any kind of meat, but it could be that it is done illegally. Unfortunately we live in a world economy and there are imports, also from non-EU countries, where hormones are allowed. Especially Argentinian beef has a hormone reputation.

I would question if it is done with chickens, in my opinion the benefits will never exceed the costs.

Fortunately I am a farmer myself and only eat beef from my own cattle :) . This way I am sure what has happened with it. That isn’t the case with chicken and pork though.

Gen manipulation can’t be trusted. No one knows what results it gives. Chickens get weeds as feeding as you know. Because gen manipulated weeds are not entirely trusted by a sufficient part of the consumers, they would be used more likely as feeding for animals, like chickens. Because they eat this, and would be ate by consumers, consumers are still exposed to gen manipulated food. The risk is the lowest at EU bred food, because gen manipulated seed is illegal here and by my knowledge not illegally used either.

Looks more likely to me that they are more expensive because the testicles are removed. I have slaughtered a few roosters myself and have noticed that the testicles are inside the rooster. This will make it very labour intensive so castrating the rooster would be very expensive this way. In my opinion that will never pay itself back but I am sure it exists. It would only never be done at a large scale.

What do you have against chickens?!:) :) :)

Just had to say a word….

Nothing, they are also birds ;) .

I don’t think there will be any active hormones left after cooking.
