Antidepressants and Anorgasmia

Last Friday the shrink prescribed antideressant drugs. As I may have mentioned in another thread, I’m very active sexually, meaning I have sex every day with the wife. Well, this had never happened to me: Since last friday I have not been able to ejaculate/orgasm. I have tried -literally- for hours, even got a swollen or trombosed vein from so much sex. My wife has done everything -well, almost everything, she refuses anal- to make me cum, blowjobs, intercourse, jack off, etc.. I become very aroused, my sex drive is in good condition, and my erections are rock hard. My dick shows the benefits of PEing very well: my wife praises it’s size frequently, but no orgasm.

Since antidepressants drugs are infamous for causing impotence, I wanted to share my experience with you guys and point out that I have not had problems with the erections, which are rock hard, nor my sex drive. The problem has just been that I haven’t been able to orgasm.

I had exactly the same problem with the SSRI meds like Prozac and Celexa. However Wellbutrin doesn’t have that effect, yet it works. I would tell my MD about it and have them switch you.

I’m taking Triciclic not SSRI. They work also on the production of Norepinephrin, not only Serotonine. Will check Wellbutrin right away and whether it is available here.

It seems that Wellbutrin (Bupropion) works on Serotonin, Norepinephrin and Dopamine, reducing their uptake.
For what was it prescribed to you? What daily dose?

I did some Prozac for awhile. It really messed my ejaculations up. The “timing” was way off. It gave me the creeps…

Seek other means of dealing with your depression or whatever ailment you suffer from. Doctors are too willing to just prescribe pills you may not truly need. If you are having sex with your wife every day, life can’t be that bad can it?

I take 150mg twice a day.

That’s a very common complaint, Hog, and it seems to be dosage related. Low dose, some anorgasmia side effect; higher, more. Some would be good for a guy with premature ejaculation. At the level you have it, no fun.

Check out Wellbutrin with your doc, as has been suggested. It may or may not give the result you need, but it seldom has negative sexual fallout.

Believe it or not (I didn’t until recently), there are other things besides sex.:)

Avocet, I’m already doing my homework on Wellbutrin. The brand name available here is Zytan, which is prescribed (marketed) as an aid to quit smoking. Ah, you are right! Is no fun, not at all.:(

I would tell your physician because not ejaculating can cause prostrate gland problems, You don’t want to be blocked all your life on this med. Now it probably isn’t doing much to cause prostrate damage now. However, as you get older and remain on the present med you are taking it could do damage causing benign prostatic hypertrophy, ouch! You won’t be able to urinate.

However this drug may block the seminal vessels, doesn’t sound good. Insist on something different like Wellbutrin.

Thank you Kingpole, hadn’t thought about it. You are right. Perhaps, I’ll “negotiate” with the shrink to keep the present medication only for the crisis and later change to Wellbutrin. I’m no about to spend the rest of my life without orgasms.

I know in the US it doesn’t matter what the drug was approved for or marketed for, doctors can prescribe it for anything once it is available. I would imagine that in Venezuala things would not be any tougher?
