A new definition for premature ejaculation
Can’t tell whether you suffer from premature ejaculation or not? Grab a stopwatch.

On Monday, a panel of medical experts will announce what they’re calling the first evidence???based definition of premature ejaculation (PE) at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in Orlando, Florida.

The panel decided that the new definition should be based on time to ejaculation, inability to delay ejaculation and the resulting “negative consequences.”

Here’s their definition if you or your partner were somehow in doubt over your status:

Premature ejaculation is a male sexual dysfunction characterized by ejaculation which always or nearly always occurs prior to or within about one minute of vaginal penetration; and, inability to delay ejaculation on all or nearly all vaginal penetrations; and, negative personal consequences, such as distress, bother, frustration and/or the avoidance of sexual intimacy.

“The hope is that more people with these symptoms will understand this is an actual health condition and seek treatment. They no longer need to suffer in silence,” says urologist Ira Sharlip, who led panel.

One wonders whether this definition will help drug companies cash in on pill to treat the newly defined condition. In 2005, the US Food and Drug Administration rejected an antidepressant to treat PE. If a drug for PE does get approved, perhaps they could mix it with Viagra.

I know Lewd Ferrigno personally.

I guess I will be the first here to say that I qualify for this condition. They can half the time and I would still fit the definition. :(

Are there any treatments available other than SSRI’s? I have tried Kingloft with no noticeable improvements.

I see drugs as a last resort. Most people can re-train this reflex with training. If you are taking Viagra for your erections, beta blockers for your heart and SSRI’s for your pe -all at once, the drugs might be fighting with each other.

I'm fed up of having a signature!

TheOne,

I have had decent luck by taking a Vitamin B Complex capsule or two and chelated zinc an hour or two prior to “the act”. The B Complex is the primary ingredient in Deferol (an herbal stamina booster). I use 50mg currently but it is available in a variety of dosages. The zinc I’m using is a chelated calcium/magnesium/zinc tablet (zinc and plenty of water seems to help with increasing volume of ejaculate). The combo has definitely added a few minutes for me.

The other thing I would suggest is when you masturbate (if you’re male, you do - it’s the law!), don’t do it like it’s a race. If you are able to last for several minutes alone, then perhaps it’s more psychological (a mind over matter issue). There are many good threads on that here. You have been a member here much longer than I; so, you may have tried these things already. Just thought I’d throw in my 2 cents.

Don’t expect wonders from vitamins and minerals. They only have an effect if your body is actually in need of them, that being the reason for a lot of the variety of results from different supplements. But it is definitely worth a try.
