Trimming Chest Hair

I use an electric beard trimmer (w/ adjustable length guide) to trim my chest hair every month or so to keep myself presentable. It works great. The problem is that it blunts the tips of the hairs and leaves me a little itchy for about a week. Does anybody know of any product I can apply to smooth/condition/soften/taper/whatever-you-want-to-call-it the tips of the hairs?

I only have that problem when I go too short. 1/4” feels good. Less makes it prickly.
