Tailoring questions (as in clothes)

Tailoring questions (as in clothes)

I had some questions about tailoring measurements for clothes. Specifically those concerning sport coats/Blazers and suits. I noticed that some people NOTE measurements for the sleeve (actual physical length) and not the measurement of “Sleeve length” (physical length plus the part across the shoulder blade to X spot) that I am used to seeing. If I have the Chest and./or shoulder size, is it possible to get a rule of thumb idea as to what the sleeve length (from shoulder blade) figure should be?

Is there a good rule of thumb for how much pants can be taken in from the figured waiste figure? Specifically, before it gets all out of whack whith the back pockets being together or on the sides? How about Inseems also? If I am a 38 inseem, what length of unfinished do I need to get a standard pant with out a cuff, etc???? How much for a cuff? I have found unfished pants in up to a 41 or 42 inseem Unfinished.

Thanks in advance.

I do believe it is good to tailor questions in the manner that a tailor fits you a suit.

-My dear boy, do you ask a fish how it swims? (No.) Or a bird how it flies? (No.) Of course not. They do it because they were born to do it...

I wish I could help, but I’m sort of a slovenly dresser.

P.S. If you need advice on trackpant alterations, I’m your guy.

I always make sure I buy my suits at a place with a Tailor they measure and they fix and it’s all part of the price. I usually go to Simms I don’t know if you have one near you. I pretty much wear jeans 90% of the time and if their to long I just cuff them up over my boots.

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

I was just peaking around on eBay and sniffing for a bargain or two dozen. I found pants DIRT CHEAP and such, but no real blazers, sport coats, or suits. The people on eBay seem to use some strange measuring system that I have never seen before, not that I am all knowing with clothes or something crazy like that.

Perhaps, I was being all textually jumbled as usual? Here is what is says exactly (AS AN EXAMPLE ONLY):
The Jacket Measurements are:

* The Length 35 1/4”
* The Shoulders 21 1/2”
* The Sleeves 28 1/2”
* The Chest 50”

The Pants Measurements are:

* The Waist 42” Material to let out 2”
* The Inseam 40” Unhemmed

I was wondering how someone is supposed to Translate a PHYSICAL sleeve length figure (sleeve-end to shoulder stitch I am assuming?)to a person’s sleeve length figure that is measured with arm bent from middle of neck/shoulder blades to wrist?

I got my last two suits at indochino.com. They make you a bespoke suit with very nice material for a couple hundred more than the off the rack suits that you are trying to make fit you. It’s a Canadian company but the suits are made in China. I get compliments when ever I wear them. You will too. I’m sort of standard sized and the difference in my suits is worth much more than the few dollars I would save buying at Macy’s. I didn’t buy bad suits off the rack. One is a Hugo Boss. My indochino looks much better. Cool feature, you get to have an embroidered message over the inside breast pocket. These are the so called “skinny suits” that are the fashion today.
