Hair loss - anything to reverse it or prevent it? Is hair transplantation an option?

Transplant procedure

Can’t remember the exact terminology the surgeon used…. but yeah it’s basically harvesting scalp from the back of your head, then dissecting the individual follicles and transplanting them in the desired areas where you want to restore hair (grafting).

All of my hair loss was in the temple areas and extending back. Very thin and getting thinner at the time. The scalp that they harvest the hair from is in the back above your neck. Much of what they can harvest depends on how loose your scalp is. Fortunately for me I had more than adequate scalp. The surgeon had around 12 ladies with microscopes dissecting the follicles from the harvested section of my scalp. One, two and three hair follicles are then strategically planted. It takes about 8 - 10 weeks and BOOM the hair starts coming in like a crop!

Thank you so much for the information, I will probably take a low dose of propecia because Im afraid of prostate enlargement but very useful to know it only works on the back! You are lucky to have such great facial features your wife must be happy :) ! Just saying you look damn good in a fancy way ;)

Thanks!

If you’re looking for a non-drug natural supplement that is supposed to be as effective as Propecia at reducing prostate enlargement and promoting prostate health, take a look at Saw Palmetto.

Great replies, guys! :)

I’ve realized that I’ve always had a slightly receded hair line from a young age. I’ve just become more conscious about it now. All in all, I’m probably more lucky than most guys. But I have receded some at this age.

At some point in time, I will probably do a hair transplant.

Hope you have as much success with this regimen as I’ve had.

Very interesting. I will probably follow this advice.

Thanks! :)

Guys I actually have been using minoxidilmax products. There 15% minoxidil 5% azelaic acid and retinol product. Just be sure to get the one with the propylene glycol because minoxidil crystals needs time to absorb so the fast drying version will leave this pretty nasty scab looking residue in your hair. I use 0,25ml and a dermaroller almost every day when I can be bothered. I figured using such a small dose would not create a minoxidil dependancy so you wont have to stress about stopping it, and guys it actually works. It keeps the hairline and thickens it slowly over time.

I haven’t read the whole thread but recommend the 3 essentials:

Minoxidil daily (also known as rogaine)
Finpecia daily(0.5mg to 1mg)
Nizoral Shampoo daily

I started early in my 20’s and just kept it up.

I’m not losing any hair however I went to a ‘Hair Growth Specialist’ recently to see what I could add to my regime.
Anyway the first consult was free and I convinced him to show me the proposed list of products. It was exactly what I was already using plus Saw Palmetto which you can buy OTC anywhere.

Some further notes after 8+ years experience on most of this.

Increasing Finprecia can have negative effects on libido so I suggest starting at .5mg. It’s also best first thing in the AM when DHT is higher.
Minoxidil seems to reach is expiry rather quickly. I like the pressurised canisters as they keep a seal that makes the contents last longer.
Saw palmetto makes me ejaculate a lot quicker so I don’t always use it.

Ouch, beard hair must be rough, it doesnt grow as long as scalp hair and the texture is different. And extracting them off the face prob requires alot a needles to numb those areas.

I suggest you make peace with it and rock that bald. Only way to stop hair loss for real is.. The Floor.

I deffo recommend shaving your head to see how it looks before you try intervening with chems or surgery. I wish I did this before all the years of minox and derma rolling etc! Shaving my head completley eliminated all my hair loss fear.

Some people are having success with PRP scalp treatment. There are some medical studies supporting this treatment as a viable alternative. Also, some people have success and less side effects with topical finastiride.

Snakeoil? Could you elaborate on this? Or is this an American saying which refers to sketchy medicine?

I myself started balding when I was 22. You can imagine my terror. I tried everything that was available in my country to fight against it but it was no use. Choose the razor my friend. Shaved heads are freaking sexy and women do love them. I know it only took me a month after shaving the first time to be comfortable with it and happy about it.

Don’t listen to your hairdresser! At the moment, you can do a high-quality hair transplant in any state. Yes, you will have to pay a lot of money, but if you know that you have a baldness predisposition, it will no longer affect you. Recently, I did such an operation myself in Toronto with my doctor friend, and my recovery period has been about a month, and now my hair looks much thicker, and there are a lot more of them.
