That’s right, chia seeds way out perform fish oil in omega 3 and omega 6 concentration and also provide fiber, antioxidants, calcium, magnesium and potassium and a lot of other nutritional benefits.

Chia Seeds are THE BEST source of
Omega-3 & Omega-6 essential fatty acids!

These seeds are perfect for diabetics &
people watching or trying to lose weight.

Chia Seeds are also very beneficial to the
heart and extremely high in fiber, calcium, high
quality protein, slowly processed carbohydrates
and loaded with vitamins & minerals and antioxidants!

The health benefits of Omega-3
fatty acids are becoming widely known.

What is not as well known is that the
chia seed is THE BEST source of Omega-3.

CHIA SEED IS BETTER THAN
FISH OIL & FLAX SEED!

Chia seed is high in protein
and high in calcium. 5 times the calcium of milk, 631 mg per 100 grams of seed.

Chia seeds are also high in protein,
with 18 grams per 100 grams of seed.

The optimum ratio of Omega-3 to
Omega-6 should be 3:1.
Chia seed provides that ratio.

Chia seed is hydrophilic.
Absorbing up to 14 times
(Mix @ 9-10 times) its weight in water.
This helps extend energy and endurance.

Chia seed is rich in antioxidant oils.
Chia contains chlorogenic acid, and
caffeic acid as well as myricetin,
quercetin, and kaempferol flavonols.
These compounds are both primary and synergistic antioxidants that contribute
to the strong antioxidant activity of chia.

Chia seed is also low in sodium.
Only 19 mg per 100 grams.

I haven’t tried chia yet, but my first order is in process and I should have it by the end of the week. Not quite sure how I will eat it, but my first try will be to just add 1 tablespoon to my orange juice and let it sit for a moment to begin absorbing the juice and then just drink it down. But I understand you can add it to all kinds of foods and drinks.

I am pretty sure this will be replacing my fish oil supplement and I am looking forward to the added benefits of chia seeds over fish oil.

The primary goal of PE should be to make your penis as healthy as possible in both form and function. If you do that, increased size will follow.

OMG! I am going call PETA about this! My fish oil stocks are going sink! I better buy all the CHias off eBAY now. This is going be a bigger rush than Beanie babies and Furbies at Xmas way back.

I can’t help it, all the oils start to get an infomercial rep around here.

You’re a motor head. You know you can’t get the best performance out of your engine with an inferior oil. Use the best, expect the best.

I get a bad reaction to some fish oils, a lot of it is inferior quality, and our poor little fishies need some respite. But I must have my omegas dammit! My curiosity is piqued for surely, will be checking into this chia stuff.Wow this site is just so multi faceted, my johnson is enlarging AND I’m being introduced to possible new dietary supplements

I bought some chia a couple weeks ago. Haven’t experimented with it yet though. It does seem amazing though.

However, I don’t think chia is comparable to fish oil for omega 3s. Now I admit I don’t know the exact reason or terms… something to do with the DHA and EPA though I believe.

Yes!

The primary Omega 3 fat in Chia and in flax (grain sources of omega 3) is ALA.

Marine sources (fish and algae) contain DHA and EPA.

Chia does not contain DHA or EPA and I’m sure Zane would be quick to point out this very important difference.

Personally, I take fish oil and flax.

I did some research on it a while back, and my memory is fuzzy, but overall, there is some data on the benefits of flax oil, but it is not nearly as voluminous or convincing as the data for fish oil. (I am mainly referring to cardiovascular benefits).

There is a lot of hype around this Chia, and although it may be a healthy food, it is sad that they try to mislead you and will not specifically state the differences between it and fish oil.

Chia is one of the highest sources for Omega-3. The oil in the seeds contains more than 60% Omega-3, the highest percentage of any commercially available source. The body converts this Omega-3 into EPA and DHA (this is the Omega-3 oil found in fish).

The body does convert ALA, and like I said, there are studies showing health benefits of flax consumption. However, just knowing that the body can convert one to the other does not mean it does not matter which one you take. There are some biochemical reasons for a lower effectiveness of dietary ALA, (now I’m going to have to go back and read), but skipping to the bottom line, fish oil has more data and shows a stronger effect on things like blood pressure, inflamatory response, triglyceride lowering, endothelial improvement etc.

As far as libido or those other things like Zane touts, I don’t know which is better because I haven’t read any studies on either sources effect.

Why Chia - Not Flax, Fish Oil or Algae?

This is rather long, but I can see this is no easy comparison. It would seem though that chia has many other nutritional benefits over fish oil, like the fiber, calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.

Anyways, I am going to give it a shot. Maybe the seeds will get stuck in my teeth and I will hate it. :)

I agree. I take flax because of the fiber and possible additional benefits of ALA, and Chia might have some additional benefits over flax.

I think that link is misleadingly negative about fish oil. The benefits of fish oil are proven, and the comparison of ALA to DHA and EPA has been studied many times. I’ll post something more specific after I dust off my old papers.
