Spironolactone 5%
Topical Cream
—-> That’s bad you said if taken orally. Wouldn’t it be still bad if it’s trans-dermal? Since it does goes through the skin, and in the blood stream?

I have used Propecia— STAY AWAY!! Erections were okay, but I did a sperm count, and trust me, I was almost impotent, after 6 months of use. Hair grows back, but then again you want your potency :)
My doctor never informed me of the side effects, thank god for the Internet, otherwise I would have been impotent by now. I managed to recharge my sperm count by taking Vit E, if anyone is intersted and .. Muira Puma (not sure on the spelling).

Anyway, one other question. I have been using Minoxidil 2% for 5 months, and it’s beena 1-2 month that I switched to Minox 5%. But no change, and I get a lot of dandruff even though I use Nizoral 2%.
I’m thinking of getting Xandrox 15%, or the Minox 5% with Retin-A. Which is better?

Should I also get Azelaic Acid and that cream? There is no problem, such as any testosterone/hormone related (side)effects, is there?

Thanks in advance

I would think that the difference is that with oral medicine, you must have an effective dose throughout your bloodstream in order to have an effective dose at the hair folicule. If You apply topically, you can use much less of the drug, so that the dose is sufficient at the hair folicule, but disipates to an insignificant level in the blood. Interesting question though.

darkreign - Yes there a very small amount of Spironolactone that would get into your blood. When you put something on your skin most of it gets pissed out of you. It doesn’t go into your blood. Think about it, your body wouldn’t let everything that hit your skin to get to your blood stream.(I have researched this topic) There have been studies on how safe it is to use the cream but I won’t take it.

Take it in the pill form and you will grow breast. Basically spironolactone does the same thing a Propecia but with way worse side effects. It takes testosterone and converts it to estrogen. Thats the purpose of the drug. So the cream form is to scary for me to take. But I was thinking about the 2% and using it once a week. Dr Lee says that most men who take Xandrox 15% won’t need it anyway but they are designed to be used right with each other.

Do not buy the Azelaic cream. It’s a zit cream and is not intended for the scalp. Most likely it will die your hair color white. As that is the color of the cream.

Thanks for your answers :)
A lot of confusing arguments. Since one person says one thing and someone else says another.

I’m really stressing out about my hair. It’s not just receding. I ve lost a lot of hair on the top of my head, and around, and in the back area.
The hair left, just feels like it’s dead :(

So I’m really looking for any solution right now :)

Thanks everyone I appreciate it.

I just bought Minoxidil 5% from Walgreens (generic brand), here in AZ on sale for $20 for a 3 month supply (3 containers of 2 oz each, I think). That is a great price!

I don’t know if this is a nationwide sale, but if it is, go get some!

Also never forget the Internet is full of crap you can overpay for I’m not saying that’s the case with what you buy. I’m having good results right now with my routine I’m not only keeping my hair but it’s getting thicker. I may want to go off the Propecia for a while than I will try that stuff.

I noticed the stuff I bought has an expiration date of 12/06. That is the reason it is on sale I’m sure. I will use it up by then (I bought 2 boxes), but even if I didn’t, it is undoubtedly still good beyond its expiration.

Hey everyone,
Im 27 and didnt have any significant hairloss till about a 9 months ago, and boy did it go quick. My Crohns doctor told me that my anemia was probably the reason it was so accelerated. Cant have good healthy hair without a healthy oxygen supply to your hair roots. (Also a good reason to quit smoking.) The genetics are there though and the age frame is consistent with most of my relatives, so anemia is certainly not the only factor in my hairloss.

My routine is very similar to most that i have read here:

1) Propecia once a day. Plan to have my doctor write me a Proscar script so I can save a little money.

2) Minox (generic Walmart brand) morning and night, always after a quick shower or a bath. I’ve read a couple places that your scalp absorbs minox better after wetting your head. Make sure that you pat out any standing water, otherwise it will dilute the minox. I massage it into my temples and hairline, then comb the excess through the hair on the top of my head.

3) 1% Nizoral every other day

4) Atleast 15mins of some form of cardiovascular activity for that extra blood flow.

5) I also take a Nioxin multivitamin once a day. Nioxin’s multivitamin claims to be specially formulated for healthy hair and nail growth. It contains roughly the same things as a normal multivitamin plus some proven and not so proven ingredients to promote healthy hair growth. It’s kinda expensive since it’s only sold in salon’s, but I’m lucky enough to work for a place that distributes it.

On top of all that I also have the things I take to supplement my Crohns medication which may also contribute to my results. Centrum multivitamin, fish oil pills, iron supplement with a glass of orange juice to maximize my absorption, magnesium/zinc supplement that i dont take with the iron because they inhibit each others absorption to a certain extent, and I drink atleast one cup of green tea a day. (FYI- I’ve noticed a drastic increase in being able to maintain a larger flaccid hang and also have much thicker ejaculate since i started taking the magnesium/zinc supplement about a month and half ago.) This may be overkill for most but my body doesn’t take in nutrients very well because of my Crohns.

I started propecia about 5months ago and minox about 3months ago. Propecia claims to show results at about 6months for most responders. Minox claims to show results around 2-3months for most responders. So I pretty much have my fingers tightly crossed for a little more dramatic increase in regrowth quite soon.

My hair has begun to shed much more in the last week or two, but from what I can tell it’s a very common occurrence for propecia users at this stage. Most of the longer term propecia users that I have talked to that went through a bad shed around this time say that my follicles are resetting for a new growth phase and that my hair should grow back thicker and fuller. There is the fear that I will be like the few I have talked to that didn’t have regrowth after the bad shed. It’s not a bad thing though, atleast it is helping me prepare for the possibility.

People have already been telling me that my hair has been looking much thicker lately. I of course don’t believe them because I have an obsession with finding the brightest lights possible when looking at my hair in the mirror. There has been a very significant slowdown to my hairloss. At times no sign of hairloss at all and i do notice thickening in my temple area. Also there are appearances of new hairs sprouting throughout my head but I don’t think they have made a major difference.

I would be considered a diffuse thinner and I can already visualize myself with that lovely hairless horseshoe on top of my head. It’s not a pretty sight.

Here are the 2 sites I check out most frequently on this subject.

Sorry for the long post, just killing some time before bed. Feel free to correct any misinformation I may have unknownly stated.

P.S. Ive been told minox cant make claims that it restores the hairline and temple areas because there has only been extensive testing on minox’s effect on the vertex. Not sure if that’s true, but seems reasonable to me.

It sounds like a good plan it you want to save money on generic Propecia look at my thread “closing down generic drug sites” it’s running in this forum. I pay about 6 bucks a month. Did you notice any side effects from the Propecia I had a drop off in sexual interest for the first couple of months just when I was going to quit it went back to 95% normal.

good post winkydink.

I read that minoxidil also can cause increased shedding before new growth starts, not just the propecia, so I guess what you are seeing is normal.

As far as minoxidil for the receding hairline, I don’t know if it is a case of not being studied or not shown to work. I haven’t looked up data on it yet.

I’ve tried the Nioxin products. I think they are a rip off. They use lots of flowery language on their packaging, but no science. Very expensive shampoo. My wife keeps buying it but I hate getting ripped off by liars. They are no better than the penis enlargement pill peddlers, in my opinion.
