Protein Powders

Hey guys. I was wondering if I could have some advice from those on the board that take some sort of protein powder or shake. My doctor recently recommended that I take the following product . She wants me to have 30g of protein in the morning at breakfast. This particular powder seems pretty good as it doesn’t contain aspartame (big no no) and is relatively low calorie. At first she suggested a soy-based compound, but after informing her that I didn’t want extra estrogens she recalled that idea.

Now can anyone provide experiences taking this, or any other kind of whey protein isolate? I would very much like to know if it has any bearing on sexual function, and especially if it alters the taste of semen or body odor. Thanks!

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. Are you trying to build muscle, gain weight etc. If there is a GNC in your area I suggest you get their gold card. They have great deals on the first of the month plus you get a 10% or 20% dicount. Alot of supplement on the market are a rip off find what suites you best and at a reasonable price. Right now I’m taking cytogainer, same company that makes muscle milk. One shake is between 800-900 calories depending on that you mix it with, 86 grams of carbs and 56 grams of protein. I am in a bulking stage, I gained about 25lbs from eating right and taking the right supplements. Also I’m in the gym five days a week. If your looking to manage your diet stay away from the carbs and sugar. Also it’s important to take a multi vitamin.

Thanks, sirmixalot. Really, I’m not trying to do this for any sort of bulking up - in fact, I’m trying to avoid bulking. I’m going to be taking some sort of protein supplement because my doctors recommended it. At the moment I’m not on any vigorous work out schedule so something with a lot of calories is not what I’m going for. I’m more interested in the effect of high protein (whey isolated derived) on some vanity issues, such as PE, sexual function, and the taste of semen.

Bodybuilding.com and bulknutrition.com are your best bets for online shopping. I prefer the latter but this is mainly because I prefer their store navigation. Price wise they are both way cheap. This is the page for all results for "whey protein"

Unless thinks have changes since I last looked either of the above will save big compared to GNC.

Take a look in the Fitness/Bodybuilding forum and use the search function a bit.

Bodybuilding.com is one of the top ones for sure.

I’ve tried almost every protein powder on the market(good ones at least)

And the one that really stood out was the Isopure.

It’s probably one of the most expensive ones, if not the most expensive one, but it tastes like areal milkshake, and should be easy to absorb.

Checkout Americanwhey.com, a great tasting whey protein.

Supposedly Optimum Nutrition has really great tasting whey protein, good quality too. You can get 5 lbs online for about $25. But I haven’t tried it yet, because Sam’s club sells 5 lb of whey for $19 - Cytosport brand, a pretty good whey to boot. No aspartame in that either. Do you have Sam’s club where you at? No shipping means 2/3 the price. The vanilla tastes good with cinnamon in it, another thing good for you as well.

The Cytosport products are good, avoid the Cytosport whey protein that Sam’s carries, it has a real bad after taste for some reason. I think Cytosport made it especially for Sam’s Club, it’s cheap, and tastes like it too. Otherwise, Cytosport products are great.

Sci-Fit smoothies are great and Muscle Milk.

I’ve never tried the Chocolate, but the Vanilla tastes good.

I use Dave Draper’s bomber blend (From davedraper.com). It is a bit more expensive than the Optimum powder or anything, but it tastes amazing, mixes extremely well, and just feels right. It digests easy, even on people who have stomachs that normally can’t take concentrated protein powders (many women I know love using it, and by switching their Slimfasts to a protein drink based on that powder have great weight loss/energy gain results).

However, if money is tight, go with the Optimum; I used their protein powder for a long time, and its hard to beat the bang for the buck.

Substance wpi is very good. Isopure is good too but it always gave me extreme cotton mouth. I used to buy the bottled ones all the time and everytime I took I sip my mouth got dryer and dryer. Also nectar I heard has a good taste if your into the fruity taste.

Highest quality protein in my opinion is Biotests - Metabolic Drive Complete. https://www.t-nation.com is where you will find it.

Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard is excellent. I’ve been using their product (strawberry) for over two years now and have no desire to change. Only buy from GNC if you’ve got extra money to burn, all the previously mentioned sites will save you money.

I love Designer Protein - very thin when used with water, easy to drink and doesn’t taste bad (vanilla).

I also use the Met-Rx origional vanilla meal replacement power. It’s a bit think unless you use 16oz of water in it - but it does work very well, and doesn’t load you up on calories. A very good product also.
