Okay so I bought 2500 creatine monohydrate capsules by ON. 2.5 grams a cap.

I opened one up, just being curious, and realized it is just creatine powder that you would mix in a drink or whatever, only in the capsule.

So my question is, would it be safe to just crack the capsule open and throw in the creatine with my protein shake?

Also, when is it optimal to take creatine and how much is optimal?

Yes, you can take them either way. Generally, not breaking open time release meds like anti-psychotics or pain killers is where problems come into play. Some TR caplets, especially those like my son use to take, are layered, rather than just slowly dissolve and maintain a steady release. The layered caplets deliver an initial full dose of medication, then dissolve to the next layer hours later, which is also another full dosage. People who break them or chew them can receive potentially lethal dosages of medications.

In your case, this is creatine monohydrate that has been encapsulated as a convenience for ease of dosing and avoiding chalky gritty liquids, so yes, you can take them either way.

Normal dosage scheduling is 20 grams per day for the first 3-5 days to “load” and then 5grams per day from then out as maintenance dosing. There are two schools of thought; pre-workout and post workout. I take the creatine within 30 minutes post workout to replenish my system when it is depleted and more likely to upload and absorb better. On my off days, I will take it in the am.

Take them with a nice glass of grape juice as it will act as the perfect transport vessel for more rapid absorption. Also, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout your days.

Creatine worked well for me when I lifted weights. Personally, I think the “loading phase” is a big load of crap and you will see the results just as fast taking 5g a day right from the start. I read that your body can only process so much of it in a given time period anyway.

The biggest problem with creatine period is that you will get a smooth look due to the water. If your looking for vascularity then this is a bad choice for you. Try CE2 if you want to spend money on GNC type supps!
