Long post - good {?} stuff ...

Hey - just got my new issue (Feb ‘04) of PHYSICAL (free with GNC Gold Card membership), and there are 2 really good articles that are worth checking out.

The first, on page 26, is a short one about the benefits of ARGININE in workouts (hmmmmm…..) when it comes to better stamina and strength. In addition, it says that doses up to 10gm (!!!) are acceptable and often provide excellent stamina support. (manual PE or pumping?) It says that the same dose can be used right after exercise to help recovery [might not be necessary unless you really broke a sweat and did a world-class workout on your whole body]

It cites studies published in the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SPORTS MEDICINE, and MEDICINE & SCIENCE IN SPORTS & EXERCISE, which support claime made for ARGININE as a great exercise supplement.

As we know, it is an AMINO ACID, which is needed for protein synthesit, glycogen production and,the article states, an increase of IGF-1 - similar to insulin. Further, ARGININE is a great addition to NO (nitric oxide) production, which enables smooth muscle strength and stamina.

Good article - - - check https://www.physicalmag.com for more info …

NEXT POST FINISHES THE DISCUSSION …

PART 2 of the PHYSICAL magazine information:

Starting on page 40 (same issue), there is a good article about sexuality, and ways to boost (or otherwise “make better”) performance and other aspects of our sexual being.

Yes - this could be in another forum setting, but it mentions supplements, and I am here now … so …

Anyway, the article stresses sevral areas to work on for maximum sexual satisfaction and performance - most of which have been addressed in other places on these boards. It is, though, a good refresher:

EXERCISE - an hour or so, a few times a week, is all that it takes to help keep muscles (particularly the heart) toned and all teh right “juices” flowing.

SUPPLEMENTS - while the jury may still be out on supplementation (herbal, etc.), this article mentions: GINKO (60 - 100 mg/day … avoid if you are on blood thinners), TONGKAT ALI (100 mg/day), L-ARGININE (2 - 3 gm/day), HORNY GOAT WEED (250 - 500 mg/day) [I personally have had no effect from this one], MACA (1 - 2 gm/day in the powdered form in juice or protein drink) and TRIBULUS (1 - 3gm/day WITH FOOD).

With some of these I have had moderate success, in that I have noticed some effect on libido & erection function. However, while I may go back to l-arginine again, and during the winter take GINKO daily) I’ll leave the rest to those who have better luck with them.

SMOKING - the bottom line is DON’T, because the chemicals in the smoke are inhibitors of performance, artery clogging agents and deplete systemic oxygen.

SLEEP - is indicated as important because it helps the body recharge naturally, and lack of it is a true negative for performance and stamina.

“FEELING” - more thantouch, it encompases emotions and the spiritual person … something we might try to do a better job with. (DISCLAIMER: “spiritual” does not imply religion … it is a state of “oneness” with the self and the surroundings, and a sense of sanctity and security with the universe)

A “BAROMETER” for relationships - awareness of the “wholeness” of our sexuality (in a relationship or in solo settings) is a key indicator as to a large part of our metaphysical makeup. If we are sexually healthy, and are in a relationship which promotes wholeness and genuine caring for the significant other, then there is balance and strength. An imbalance is indicative of some disfunction.

OK … there it is - for beter or worse. I have read more complete articles on the subject, and more detailed, but this one really summarizes key components of our sexual persona, and explains some of the simple things we can do to get better and stronger for the journey.

Again, it is the FEBRUARY 2004 issue of PHYSICAL … a monthly journal of practical body building and strength issues.

I am neither endorsing the publication, nor promoting it. neither am I in any way in the employ of GNC or other health-food agency (but I sure wish I was). The information given here is strictly my interpretation of the articles, and is meant to be evaluative only. [this applies to both posts on these articles from PHYSICAL magazine]

Enjoy …
