Libido supplements long term question

I know there are lots of these, but do these tend to gain effect cumulatively as you keep using long term or do they eventually lose effect? Or perhaps some gain over time and others lose?

My list of stuff I have right now is :
1. Gingko
2. Zinc
3. Arginine
4. Ginseng
5. Horny goat weed
6. Prelox (which also has pycnogenol and aspartic acid)
7. t-bomb II (http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133280)

I listed everything I have, not necessarily libido specific items. So yeah, primarily I’m just trying to get a handle on which ones are good to use permanently and which lose effect over time. But certainly if anyone recommends any specific one I’m not using, or if I should get specific version of one that’s in the t-bomb, let me know that too.

In addition to those you list I recently tried a new one. It is Test X180 IGNITE.

Stats:

Another one I have used is “Yohimbe-Plus by Irwin Naturals. They also make another one, but I do not remember its complete name. I do remember that it has the word “Red” in the name. I get these at a local health food store.

Did it work? Is the free sample + S&H enough to male a difference?

I once tried a sample of Cobra containing Yohimbie. They worked so well that I got a full erection within minutes and it lasted as well.

That’s kind of what I’m trying to distinguish on some of these - those which have a quick response, maybe only need to take those when they’re actually needed; compared to other things that maybe should be taken daily long term.

Yohimbina is nasty stuff. Better that you get some erection drugs at this point.

No drugs!

I’d advise you to stay away from synthetics. T-boosters are shit, better get some Maca. It’s said to be safe in the long run, increases libido greatly and doesn’t mess with hormones.

I don’t know why you bother with Prelox, it’s basically L-arginine with antioxidants. You’re getting the first and if you eat more berries you’ll get plenty of the other. Anyway, as far as I know the effects of L-arginine don’t last very long, so you’d probably find it redundant after a couple of months.

RE-Started (01.10.2012): 4.75'' NBPEL, 4.33'' EG (overall), 3'' NBPFL --- Now: 5.1'' NBPEL, 4.75'' EG (overall), 3.5'' NBPFL

Short-term goal: 5.5'' NBPEL, 4.5'' EG (overall), 3.5'' NBPFL --- Long term goal: 7.5'' NBPEL, 5.5'' EG (overall), 5'' NBPFL

Wish me luck! :)

Initial response is good, IMHO

It requires 4 capsules per day. I am only taking two in the am. It is suggested 2 in am and 2 in pm.

Most of those supplements (aside from the testosterone booster) listed play a more supportive role in EQ, rather than increasing the libido much I would say.
I would be a little cautious around rebound effects with testosterone boosters.

This is exactly what you want, anti-oxidants like Pycnogenol and Resveratrol act to increase endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) which is needed in the biosynthesis of nitric oxide from arginine. The nitric oxide can then do the work of relaxing smooth muscle. In my experience, the increase of eNOS alone, without L-arginine supplementation, was enough to notice improvements in EQ.

In terms of what is good to use permanently, I would suggest Zinc and antioxidants as part of a permanent regime, the others I would cycle as needed.

The OP could look into L-DOPA for libido too.

Yohimbe

Marinera, I agree. I take a number of supplements but Yohimbe is one I avoid. I understand it is banned here in Australia.

Quote “Drug Interactions and Warnings
Yohimbe should not be taken if you suffer from any of the following: Kidney disease, diabetes, glaucoma, abnormal blood pressure, irregular blood sugar, psychological disorders, history of gastric or duodenal ulcers.

Yohimbe should not be taken with tranquilizers, anti-depressants, sedatives, amphetamines, antihistamines, narcotics such as cocaine or significant amounts of alcohol. Being a stimulant itself, use caution when adding any other stimulant class drugs or herbs. Substances the increase heart rate may also interact with Yohimbe.

At high doses, Yohimbe can act as a MAO inhibitor and can cause serious adverse effects when taken concomitantly with tyramine-containing foods (e.g. liver, cheeses, red wine) or with over the counter products containing phenylpropanolamine, such as nasal decongestants and diet aids. Individuals taking yohimbe should be warned to avoid these foods and OTC products because of the increased likelihood of adverse effects.”

Pycnogenol

Papple. I agree with you re Pycnogenol. I take it with Arginine and it does seem to make it work better. A Bulgarian study “Treatment of erectile dysfunction with pycnogenol and L-arginine” . by Stanislavov R and Nikolova V supports this - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12851125.

What I have found is that Arginine in its various forms and Citrulline together with antioxidants such as Pycnogenol and Vitamin C help to get it stiff if you have EQ issues as I do. I also use Ginkgo Biloba which I understand thins the blood to assist.

I find so called test boosters such as Tribulus Terrestris, Horny Goat Weed and Rhodiola Rosea help to make me horny. I had my testosterone measured and it is on the low side but my Doc says not quite low enough to qualify for injections. Anyway would rather get benefit by a natural boost than by injections which I suspect may only weaken my natural test production. Can anyone advise on this?

I have also imcreased my intake of garlic, ginger. ginseng green tea and a South African bush tea called Rooibos which I gather has lots of antioxidants (I also like its taste).

I cycle my supplements. This way I keep the cost down and they seem to help when I need them to work. I would love to see some research on the pros and cons of cycling. I suspect cycling is more importand for some than others.

Maybe see if your doctor will prescribe you an aromatase inhibitor, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15001605 for example.
Perhaps the over the counter body building supplements that claim to be aromatase inhibitors would be worth a shot if your doctor is reluctant.

For what it’s worth, the so called natural boosters may have rebound effects, for example I saw some mention of D-aspartic acid use resulting in a testosterone dip once they cycle was finished.

Have you tried tyrosine or Mucuna Pruriens (a source of L-Dopa)?

Papple, thanks for the advice. I will try the Doc out on an aromatase inhibitor. Will be curious as to how he reacts. He gets a bit funny when I suggest something based on outside advice. I might actually be already taking one though on a very intermittent basis. I occasionally take diindolylmethane which was recommended by my supplier of D-Aspartic Acid. I would take on average one cap per week. I take DAA four to five days a week. I went off all supplements for a week or more before my testosterone test and have another one scheduled in two months time. I also take cholesterol reducing drugs but have recently reduced the amount as my blood cholesterol have reduced below the required level which I put down to extra exercise and improved diet. I have read that these drugs can reduce test because the endocrine glands which produce testosterone feed on cholesterol. Do you know if there is any truth in that?

>Have you tried tyrosine or Mucuna Pruriens (a source of L-Dopa)?

I have some Mucuna Pruriens and again perhaps take one cap per week. I have been following advice from Mark Wilson who recommends taking a different test booster each day to some extent. I tend to take DAA, Tribulus and HGW more often (perhaps 4 days a week) and the others one or two days. I also take Milk thistle as a liver cleanser on my off days.

Regards
Austfred
