L-Arginine: To Chew or not to Chew

I’ve come across a post that L-arginine causes heartburn when not chewed before swallowing. Are you L-Arginine advocates chewing the tablet first?

Most of us are using it in powder for and mixing it with something to drink.

I often take Nox2 tablets (actually Vitamin Shoppe’s knock-off NoX 3000) and I can say I would not put it high on my “To Chew” list.

I take them swallowed whole, on an empty stomach with plenty of water. Which is what it says to do on the bottle.

I can’t think of any reason to chew these particular tablets.

What’s the benefit supposed to be? Better absorption or something? I highly doubt it makes any difference on that score.

And the chalky after taste of powdered aminos is not exactly appetising.

Arginine seriously tastes like ass, the major draw back to using the powder. With that in mind I wouldn’t chew up the pills.

Which is best?

-Arginine and Ornithine together in one capsule

-Liquid Arginine

-Arginine and Ornithine separately

I actually don’twantto try chewing it. I can’t even stand the smell of the tablets. I’ve just come across a post that not chewing the tablets causes heart burns. That’s why I asked. But if it’s ok to not chew it, I would love not to.

What’s ornithine for, btw?

I take 6g of AAKG powder a day (3 morning, 3 before bed), usually mixed with apple juice, and I haven’t noticed any heartburn issues at all. That’s significant cause I had major acid reflux problems about five years ago.

BTW, I don’t taste it at all. I just mix it with juice. I haven’t tried it with water, but I’m not going to since it apparently tastes horrible :P

Oh, I’m using the Higher Power AAKG powder. I got it off bodybuilding.com.

Maybe because it’s powder. I was concerned of the tablet form that they suggested to chew it. So, obviously, there shouldn’t be a problem with powder form. :)
