Has anyone tried this, and how has it worked for you?

I think that DHEA is a mild steroid, in fact some people consider a “third world” steroid, because it can be bought over the counter. It basically increases testosterone mildly.

Currently BPEL-6.5 EG-4.50

DHEA supplements are sometimes used as muscle-building or performance-enhancing drugs by athletes. However, a randomized placebo-controlled trial found that DHEA supplementation had no (statistically significant) effect on lean body mass, strength, or testosterone levels.[14]


A 2006 study supplemented DHEA to men of average 65 years of age, and found that the men experienced significant increases in testosterone and cGMP (Cyclic guanosine monophosphate), and significant decreases in low-density liprotein (LDL). The authors say that the “findings…suggest that chronic DHEA supplementation would exert antiatherogenic effects, particularly in elderly subjects who display low circulating levels of this hormone.”[25]


A 2008 study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, June 2008, measured serum DHEA in 940 men and women ranging from age 21 to 88, following them from 1978 until 2005. The researches found that low levels of DHEA-s showed a significant association with shorter lifespan and that higher DHEA-s levels are a “strong predictor” of longevity in men, even after adjusting for age, blood pressure, and plasma glucose. No relationship was found between serum DHEA and longevity for women during the study period. The study did not find a significant difference in longevity until the 15-year follow-up point, which the researchers note may explain why some past research that followed men for less duration found no relationship.[26]

I’ve read some where taking DHEA can be beneficial but…. your body supposedly will start to produce less testosterone or something like that. Guess it becomes dependent on it or something, or maybe had to do with HGH being lowered. I’ll have to find it again and put it up.

**Side Effects of DHEA and DHEA Danger**

“Although DHEA lacks long term research to document its side effects, this doesn’t mean it has non. Far from it. Below is a quick list of possible DHEA side effects and DHEA “danger”“.

— Like any and all androgenic steroid, DHEA can cause hair loss, especially in men. DHEA tends to increases levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), along with testosterone, and DHT is a main cause in hair loss.

— DHEA use can lead to acne problems, as most of you probably know that testosterone can cause acne problem among others.

—DHEA can lead to menstrual irregularities in women. It can also accelerate facial hair growth, and deepen voice.

— DHEA can convert to estrogen and this can lead to unwanted “feminine” characteristics in men.

— Long term use of DHEA can increase risk for breast, ovary, and prostate cancer.

— DHEA can also lead to prostate englargment.

There is a chain of events occurring nearly in all men who have gone beyond puberty. It starts with cholesterol and in it are things like testosterone, estrogen and DHEA. If you take DHEA, then, some of it can be converted into testosterone. The more testosterone you make (or take), the more estrogen you can make, especially as you get older.

We all make estrogen and need to do so. However, too much is counter productive and can make you feel crap. Also, there is evidence that too much estrogen can precipitate various cancers in both men and women. It can cause men to develop breasts, etc as listed above. Incidentally, many of the negatives listed in the post above result from estrogen, not DHEA directly.

Why might you take DHEA? If you’re a fit healthy younger male, you shouldn’t. If you’re a bit older and showing signs of andropause (testosterone deficiency because your balls have started to shut down), it might help boost your testosterone levels.

Anything you do to increase your testosterone levels can cause your balls to shut down (if you don’t use it, you lose it). That is why body builders who supplement with testosterone, cycle and have periods on and periods off. If your balls have shut down anyway, so what. However, if you’re a fit healthy younger guy, DON’T DO IT.

If you supplement with testosterone, make sure you only use bioidentical stuff (identical to what we guys make anyway). Much of the illicit stuff you can get at your gym is artificial and, evidence suggests, can cause cancer.

I’m an older fart and suffer andropause. I supplement with testosterone, Arimidex to control estrogen and hCG to stop my balls from shrinking and all under my doctor’s supervision, including 3-monthly blood tests to check what’s happening. Over the years, I’ve also taken DHEA, 7-keto DHEA, Indole Plus, DIM, Chrysin and a few other things listed in My Pics thread in my signature below. Because of my regimen, I operate as well as many guys half my age in terms of brain function, musculature, sex, etc.

I haven’t read any of the above posts but DHEA is only beneficial if your way up in age. A young man it will actually be counter productive.

Hmm interesting information but it’s airing on the side of rascism. What makes you associate watermelon seeds and black people? I’m white and I’ll eat the hell outta some watermelon lol. Wish this was true but I would try to keep away from unwanted stereo types even if it is all in fun and games. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for responding to that one Newby. Very diplomatic. I too am white and enjoy this site simply because of it’s low tolerance for inflammatory posting and sophomoric humor. Well most of the time anyway. Haha. Doesn’t add any value to the knowledge base. Thunder does an excellent job as Moderator. Hey.. All we are saying.. Is give peace a chance.

Beneficial in what terms? There was an article a while ago stating that watermelon has viagra like effects,grossly exagerated.

It is cheap. So give it a try. If you notice nothing after a month maybe 6 weeks. Dump it and forget all about it! I have used high doses of DHEA in the past. Talking grams amounts a day. At that dose I do feel a little something but never any extra muscle gains and did not notice anything in the way of sexual boosting. I did notice the hair on my hands got thicker and darker. I do not use it any longer.
