"Penis tissues do not regenerate" -Portland

"Penis tissues do not regenerate" -Portland

Could anyone elaborate on this?

Here is Portland’s (a user on here) direct quote:

“If you have been told that the tissues in the penis etc do not regenerate then I have been told the same by a urologist and probably the best andrologist in Europe.”

Could someone elaborate on this? I assume he means injuries to the penis do not heal?

Why?

I think, he means if someone chops part of your penis off or is seriously smashed up in an accident, it doesn’t grow back. Kind like losing your finger.

The why? I’m guessing complexity of all the different tissues involved in making up the penis. However, if one part is damaged (say part of the tunica as in peyronie’s or a blood vessel or even a nerve), some of the functions may return with time, I think.

He hasn’t posted for a long time so I thought it would make better sense to ask here.

Thanks bohm, but I don’t think that’s what he meant.

Portland didn’t lose his penis in a car crash, he damaged it jelqing and was told “penis tissues do not regenerate”. It doesn’t makes sense to me, what makes the penis so special that it does not heal like the rest of the body??

Well, I suppose it’s how you define regeneration:

“In biology, an organism is said to regenerate a lost or damaged part if the part regrows so that the original function is restored.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regeneration_(biology)

It seems to be a function of the amount and type of damage. Even in peyronie’s disease where there appears to be some type of injury process ~15% resolve spontaneously. You can check it for yourself on the Internet or ask your doctor. If you get a cut, dots, etc or even minor nerve injuries, etc. as many have on this forum, they do heal. So, I’m not sure how anybody can say that penis tissue doesn’t regenerate, unless they mean the more severe form of damage. Just my opinion.

Post #199 here: portland - PE gave me irreversible ED

“Sorry to hear about yr problem. I am in a similar situation. I didn’t damage my veins though, I damaged the smooth muscle in the corporal chambers, they tore and led to deformity and dysfunction. I too have discussed an implant with an andrologist, I am 28 and he too states that I am very young to under go this option. It is however an option, the implant that you mention does seem the best. Length wise it is up to 21 cm, obviously it will take a lot of use to stretch to it’s full range and in some cases girth will increase. Research from people’s opinions suggest that implants are a good option, no loss of feeling, normal orgasm. The main down side is loss of length and an irreversible decision my the patient, and yes they can malfunction, so at a young age you may expect a replacement. Who knows what will be developed in the future. If you have been told that the tissues in the penis etc do not regenerate then I have been told the same by a urologist and probably the best andrologist in Europe. With regards venous leakage, there are operations, where they band the veins together.
You have to remember that there is a solution to your problem and it may be an implant, you must not stop thinking that you can not get a functioning penis again, because you can. There are lots of people in the same position as you. In the future you will find a solution that will greatly improve your life.”

Here’s that research that was mentioned in that post (Dr. Atala). It wasn’t done in humans and it’s probably quite a few years in the future before it can be done in humans with serious problems. They been saying the same crap about cloning hairs for bald guys for years now.

“Various reconstructive procedures have been attempted to restore a cosmetically acceptable phallus that would allow normal reproductive, sexual, and urinary function in patients requiring penile reconstruction. However, these procedures are limited by a shortage of native penile tissue. We previously demonstrated that a short segment of the penile corporal body can be replaced using naturally derived collagen matrices with autologous cells. In the current study, we examined the feasibility of engineering the entire pendular penile corporal bodies in a rabbit model. Neocorpora were engineered from cavernosal collagen matrices seeded with autologous cells using a multistep static/dynamic procedure, and these were implanted to replace the excised corpora. The bioengineered corpora demonstrated structural and functional parameters similar to native tissue and male rabbits receiving the bilateral implants were able to successfully impregnate females. This study demonstrates that neocorpora can be engineered for total pendular penile corporal body replacement. This technology has considerable potential for patients requiring penile reconstruction.”

Thanks mate. It’s interesting stuff but doesn’t really fill me with hope. It’ll be 10-20 years before that stuff is realistic. And I’ll be an old man.

Does anybody have any idea what Portland meant then?

Willy Wonka that link helped with finding a contact and maintaining hope for my injury. If you have any other suggestions or ideas could you direct me to them?

Thanks in advance :)
