Names of tests that can be done on penis?

I am interested in knowing what the standard medical tests that are available for testing the penis are. I understand there are some kind of tests of the nerve function. Does anyone know what those are called exactly? I also know that there are tests for blood flow. Any advice on what those are called would be appreciated as well?

I suffer from soft glans and apparently it can be caused by many different things. In order to narrow them down, I would appreciate knowing what the medical diagnostics that are available are. Thanks ahead.

Why not go to the doctor and see what tests he feels you may need. If I was a doc and you came to see me and told me what tests you’d like I’d tell you to leave. It’s his ob not yours.

It’s true- it’s actually a secret which tests a doctor might perform for soft glans. Forget about asking your doctor to perform a certain test, that’s something else. The point isn’t that you aren’t allowed to ask any questions about this. It needs to be kept secret.

This doesn’t completely answer your question, but if you’re experiencing any numbness in the glans (a topic found elsewhere here), I do know that my neurologist uses a set of piercing tools to touch various places and establish a grid-work of sensitivity. Not my penis, though! Arms, legs, etc. I’ve done the same thing with a toothpick or compass point when I’ve had glans numbness. It also helps to have set up a gridwork before experiencing any problems, but that’s hindsight.

jimmybob is trying to tell you the perils of self diagnosis. If your further reinforcing your self diagnosis with making up a certain battery of tests yo want performed your only strenghtening your prenotion that there is indeed a problem. Better go to the doctor and explain the symptoms you feel you are having. Maybe he can prescribe you something that will make it completely go away.

But to answer your question in topic the tests I can help with are:

Doppler blood flow test - to scan for venous leakage.
Sensitivity test -like don logan said
Feeling the penis for any placque

Ok thanks. I guess the main common ones then are nerve conduction test and doppler blood flow test? Just wanted to have some idea what I might mention to my general physician while bringing up what kind of specialist(s) to get referal to. I wonder if urologists are the best for both or if it might be advantageous to see a neurologist for the nerve tests and someone else for the blood flow. In my country my “family doctor” (ie general physician) won’t be doing either. The sexologist doctor I visited before for something else did not seem like the one to do these tests either. Does one typically look for a urologist for all tests of penis?

I do wonder how a simple nerve conduction test could really be very useful. I do have sensitivity in my penis. But perhaps the critical areas for stimulating tumescence of the glans have been blunted. I don’t suppose a simple test would be able to distinguish something like that. It would be just say I’m fine even when there might be a finer irregularity. So I do wonder if some kind of “grid” test would be much more desirable, and who would be able to do it.

What are your erection levels like? The glans is normally the last bit to get fully hard so it could be EQ related.

My CCs get very hard but my glans never quite feels full. It’s a bit of a disturbing feeling. I cant quite describe it. It also means my dick has signifixantly lower volume and girth than it should since basically only 2 out of 3 chambers are inflating properly. I miss that feeling of having an extra hard glans and CS right before orgasm when youre deep in girl and really going for it. Its abit depressing that that stage of sex is missing now.

Have you tried jelqing your CS gently?

Henrik how long have you had it and what do you think caused it? Has the quality of your sex gone down significantly, also for the girl? Have you seen a doctor for it?

Had it for several years it was not caused by pe thats for sure. In my case I think it is a peyronies placque or at least was at one point that caused a upcurve behind the glans and soft glans syndrome disease. Extending is slowly reversing the effects and maybe one day I can be fully cured. I have not seen a doctor because piblic healthcare doesnt cover such problems here :(

Very good and smart post. Patients tell symptoms; doctors decide the tests. Go in and tell them you think you have nerve damage and the doc that don’t throw you out will be convinced it’s all in your head and they’ll throw you out. Let the man do what he trained and studied for unless you trained and studied more than he did.

No harm in learning a bit about it yourself though. I don’t mean you should argue with the doctor or tell them what you think is wrong but to just have a bit of an understanding of the issues your body is facing.

It’s best to go to a doctor with an open mind, don’t try to guide their thought process and let them work as they work best. But if you take responsibility for you body then you’d better reconcile what they say with some common sense.

Hope you find your answers and that you keep us updated.
