So I bought an Infrared lamp

So I bought the Exo Terra 150W IR bulb to use as a warm up. I haven’t used it for PE yet, but I tested it on the back of my hand. I didn’t feel much heat at the recommended distance of 12-18 inches, I felt the heat at about 8 inches; should I use it at such distance?

I use mine about 8 inches away. Just be careful because it will hurt like a …. if you touch it.

Do you have some sort of set up so you can easily adjust the height in case 8 inches ends up being to close?

The red lights used in baby chicken pens are those the same inrared lights?

I personally don’t know. Mine is primarily used for reptiles I believe it was Roots that recommended it to me. He might have an idea about that.

They’re used in animal husbandry. I use mine when we’re raising chicks. Anyway the bulbs are about 10 bucks apiece and I put them in one of those adjustable lamps with the clamp on it. Boy the wife would be impressed if she walked in the bathroom and I got some crazy ass contraption hanging of my dick and a chicken light shining on that mess :)

They are the same lights. My duck was hatched under one.

Eight inches should be fine, just be careful not to cook yourself. IR heat is weird, you don’t feel it in the same way, like right on the surface of your skin. It’s a deeper feeling, and I think this makes it easier to overheat. Just be safe and use your best judgment. I have used mine at that distance with no ill effects.

I’m going to hold it to see what distance suits me, then I’ll set something up at such distance.

I assume if it’s being cooked I’ll know just like other heat sources, right? Why some sites claim not to use at certain distance? Is it detrimental to one’s health, or is it to prevent overheating?

Correct, you’ll feel it. It just won’t feel like an open flame on your skin. More like your internal temperature is too high.

Looking at the box the bulb came in, it shows a graph with the heat to distance ratios. At 4-8 inches it irradiates >131F, is that safe?

Oooo, I don’t know. Sounds hot, but maybe not too hot. Hard to say. Above 114 degrees is generally where you want to be deep in the tissue, but I don’t know at what temperature it becomes too hot. I’ll check around and see what I can find.

I set up swag hooks into the ceiling above where I hang. Then I bought the chain you would see in old school fans from 1970s or 1980s. Then I would attach an S hook to the chain and to the clamp light.
If the heat gets uncomfortable I just move the S hook up one link in the chain. I just go by feel.

If you can’t go that route you probably want to have some set up where you can adjust the distance of the heat source easily.

I looked for what temperature is safe on skin, but didn’t find anything; I couldn’t spend too much time, but I’ll search again later. If anyone knows what temperature is safe on skin, please chime in.

I recently acquired couple of those ceramic IR lamps on aliexpress and am about to mod a metal lamp stand to fit a ceramic holder to try out IR heating.

I do my PE sitting down in front of the computer.

Would like to check the best way to position this lamp. I assume you place it so the front of the lamp is 8” above the dorsal area of the penis? Or is an angled position from one side OK? How do you protect your balls?
