Erectile Dysfunction and Natural Vasodilators

Hi all,

I just thought I would post some information I found about natural vasodilators. I found a nice article explaining the the body’s vascular and nervous system as it relates to Erectile Dysfunction (ED), and how supplements/natural vasodilators work on the physiological level to help you. The article also covers Female Sexual Dysfunction. An interesting read, as I have suffered the occasional venous leak! Here’s the link:

http://www.hsrmagazine.com/articles/241feat3.html

here is an excerpt:

“Ginseng helps the conversion of arginine to NO, so it is recommended as a complement to arginine supplementation.”

Seems like vitamin B3 may be good to reinforce Jelqs.

Here’s how it works, too often, in treating ED. Say you are 43 yrs old and you are having trouble, over and over, getting it up or keeping it up. You go to your family doctor or a urologist without searching for a real specialist in ED; you tell him, stumblingly, that you are having erection troubles. He asks you a couple of questions trying to find out how bad off you are, checks your chart to see if you have any existing form of heart disease, hands you a sample pack of Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra and an Rx you can fill, pats you on the back and sends you on your way. Result: the V, C, or L usually works and you feel better. But you have learned absolutely nothing about what is causing your ED in the first place.

Alternatively, too often, you don’t go to a doctor because you are mortified. What would the guys at the gym or your poker buddies think of you? After all, to hear them talk they are banging everything that moves, and nightly. What will the doctor think of you? He doesn’t have ED, nor will he tell you if he does.

So you go the herbal route because it is easy and not embarassing to order something on-line or buy it at a chain store. Whatever you choose to buy may or may not work. Whatever the outcome, what have you learned about the cause of your own ED?

Here is a breakdown of the base causes of ED:

Vascular 40%
Diabetes 30%
Medications you take 15%
Pelvic Surgery, injury, 6%
Neurologic 5%
Endochrine problems 3%
Other 1%

The top three problems comprise 85% of all ED (leaving out Performance Anxiety, which is real ED) and they can each be broken farther down as to why, specifically, they cause ED. My point in saying all this is not to knock your post, only to point out that as you age the base cause of your ED can worsen in spite of the supplements you take, whereas when you know what you are dealing with specifically, you can take steps to reduce the base effect or eliminate it.

You say you have venous leakage, for example. How do you know that?

Hey,

This is not the scientific way of diagnosing yourself with venous leak, this is what I did: Upon having an erection I could actually feel the blood rushing out of my penis while doing a kegel (yes, this may be unique to me). I was a bit skeptical at first so next erection soon after I placed my finger on the vein where I could feel blood rushing out in order to block blood flow and I was able to keep a firm and long lasting erection. Same way cock rings work I guess.

I heard that Marijuana has vasodilating properties. I am able to get long lasting wood upon its use.

Therefore I believe my problem is vascular and in the 40 percent group. I am almost 26 years old.

Avocet, I read your post about pumping and its effects on your vascular system, congrats, very inspiring! I am thinking about adding pumping to my routine.

I’m curious: What IS venous leakage? A blood vessel starts leaking or something?

edit: we were posting at the same time! Or maybe he’s psychic… he answered my question before I asked it!

It’s when blood flows out of your penis faster than it can be pumped in during an erection.

“I heard that Marijuana has vasodilating properties. I am able to get long lasting wood upon its use.”

Ping: Where did you hear this? Was it from a reputable source? I’ve used this drug on a pretty regular basis for over 30 years and I’ve never heard this. It does seem to stimulate drive, but I feel it is more psychological than physiological.

Thats quite a shopping list HSR(Health Supplement Retailer) recommends.

Big Girtha,

Hey, I don’t recall exactly where I heard marijuana acts as a vasodolator. However, I did a google search using the keywords “marijuana” and “vasodilator” and came up with a few articles mentioning it. I don’t think they were reputable sources.

Interesting ED statistics A8,

vascular 40%, diabetes 30%, medications 15% . . .

So, for many men, either directly or indirectly, lifestyle modifications could have a big impact on setting the stage for curing ED as follows:

Diet and modest exercise can have a huge impact on cardiovascular health as well as slowing or reversing the ravages of type II adult onset diabetes (and hypertension - thus eventually lowering meds). By modest I mean something like 3 or 4 vigorous 30 minute walks each week. Combine that with a healthy diet rich in EFA’s and clean water together with a good PE program and a person could beat ED (not to mention many other health issues). Sad to say so few people will do that. Popping vitamin pills (or Viagra) will not undo the damage of all those McD double-cheeseburgers and fries cooked in partially-hydrogenated oils that turn to plastic in your body.

Quite an interesting choice - fast foods = a dead dick.

av,

And perhaps the 43 year old guy has performance anxiety, and the drugs don’t work for him, which makes his performance anxiety worse, so he takes higher doses, it still doesn’t work, which makes him think his pluming is proper fucked up which makes his performance anxiety worse etc. (yeah that happened to me except I bought online before seeing a doc).

Do you know what the percentages are like when performance anxiety is taken into account?

I’m sorry, I don’t know the percentages for performance anxiety. It is treated as a separate problem from a plumbing one but is recognized as a legit form of ED.

What guys with performance anxiety do not often get is that talking about it helps a whole lot; not with friends, but with sexual partners. If one were to say to a date when sex looms into the picture, “Listen. I have to tell you something. Everytime I am with a new person, for a couple times I get very tense and I can’t stay hard; I can’t even get hard,” one of two things will happen:

She (he) laughs at you, mocks you, and leaves your house (VERY unlikely) or the partner says something immediately soothing and calming like, “Well, let’s just see where we get tonight. Or tomorrow night. Or whenever.”

Though these drugs do not always work, they usually do if you have some knowledge about how to use them. The internet sources tell you nothing, of course, so you take them expecting an instant miracle - meanwhile having gourged yourself on salami pizza, Ranch Dressing, and too many beers. There is a learning curve to each of them; although of the same family, they act differently. Try them first by yourself under a couple of different circumstances, fuck your brains out and get some confidence, then drop the drugs. Until you change girlfriends or boyfriends, then you are often back into performance anxiety, but by then you know how to handle it.

Yes. If you know what cause(s) you are dealing with. Otherwise you are pissing in the wind. (Although eating right and exercising will help, overall, with anything - even if just feeling better in your head.

Interesting. Do you have any advice on the best way to take them, Cialis specifically?

Cheers,
SS4

All these drugs work best on an empty stomach - no food for at least three hours.

With Viagra, even a snack can knock off the effect. A suggestion for taking V is to dissolve your dose (say, 50 mg) in a couple ounces of water and drink that down. This will give you a faster and higher blood plasma level of the sildenafil. It should be working in about 20 minutes. Of course, if you are inclined to get the unpleasant side effects (headache, flushing, gastric upset) you’ll get them faster and stronger, too. Viagra has a half-life of 4 hours. This means that if you took 50 mg, four hours later you would have only 25 mg working for you and that means that the average “window of opportunity” of Viagra is about 6 hrs.

Cialis has less interaction with food but food intake will still slow it down. However, the half-life of Cialis is 17 hrs so you should get on average a good 30 some hrs of effect from it. Much better a drug to take if you have planned a romantic dinner. You can get around the problem of food with Viagra by taking it an hour or so before your restaurant date, get it working, eat, then later still be good for sex. Eat light. Fatty foods slow Viagra way down. About 5 percent of V. users get spontaneous erections after taking it. If you are in that group, as I am, you probably don’t want to be standing in a restaurant line with a hard-on when it kicks in.

Cialis works a little differently from Viagra. More naturally, if you will. You still get a good erection, you just need a little more stimulation to get things going.

Side effects: Cialis can cause muscle ache the first few times you take it and this turns some folks away from it. However, most of the negative side effects, including , muscle ache, headache and facial flushing, sharply diminish or disappear completely if you use them regularly.

Levitra, the newest of the group of PDE5 drugs, doesn’t have many generics out there yet. It has about the same half-life as Viagra. My doc gave me some to try. I did, but only twice. The heart burn was so bad that I didn’t care whether it worked or not. It did work; but I was too uncomfortable to take advantage of it.

It’s best to try these drugs solo first to get a sense of their timing in your own case. Once you learn how they are likely to work, sex with a partner is going to be much smoother for you.

A couple of social drinks don’t seem to have any negative effect with any of these drugs.

I am not, btw, encouraging any of you guys without some level of erectile dysfunction to use any of these recreationally. They all carry with them a certain component of psychological dependence. You like the results; after a few times you begin to think you need the drug to have the same sexual experience. Further, now that there have been a lot of studies of at least V and C, the evidence is that men who do not have some ED already don’t really perform any better on the drugs than off them. With the right stimulation, you are going to have erections anyway so why bother with a drug?

av,

Good info man, thanks.

From 20mg I get 3 days of effect, which is interesting.

How does this longer half life effect whether you should have an empty stomach? Like, is it that you have an empty stomach when you take the drug and you get a better effect for the 30 hours?
